Konya was the capital city of the Seljuk Empire and is home to important historic and religious sites. It contains the Mevlana museum, home to the tomb of the Sufi mystic Rumi, the Eflatunpinar monument, and the Karatay madrasah and museum. The ancient city of Kilistra is also located near Konya, as are the Strolling Relief of Rock carvings from the Late Hittite period in Ivriz and Catalhoyuk, an important Neolithic civilization site.
