In 2007 IFAD along with other organizations such as FAO, GTZ, CTA organized the first Web2fordev conferenceIn 2008 EC developed a white paper highlighting why IFAD should adopt Web2.0 paradigm and provided a list of Web2.0 tools that IFAD could useAs a result as of 2009, IFAD has a social reporting blog, the President has a blog, IFAD has a twitter account, IFAD has a Picasa account, IFAD is now putting powerpoint presentations delivered at workshops and meetings on slideshare, IFAD has a YouTube and Blip.TV channel, IFAD is experimenting with Wikis, GoogleDocs, colleagues are using Skype, colleagues who were introduced to doodle are using doodle – for sure all of you here once you leave this session will also start using doodle.This is a bit of a backgroundThe purpose of this session is to talk briefly about what are the principles behind Web2.0 and give you a flair of the what Web2.0 tools can do for you.In this session we will not cover in depth all the tools that Amedeo and I will be showing you. At the end of the session we would like to ask you to tell us what tools you would like to have a more in-depth hands on session, so that Amedeo and I can organize these sessions, based on your NEEDS.So if you have to leave the session before we finish, pls make sure you put your name on the sheet of paper by the door so that we can get in touch with you.We want this session to be interactive, so feel free to interrupt, ask questions, share your comments, insights, experience and wisdom

Over the year web2.0 tools have become a KM enablerThe web is no long just a window, but has become a collaborative and interactive toolWeb 2.0 is a massive social experimentEnables to harness collective intelligenceIt is an architecture of participationEnables rich user experienceAllows you to mix and remix data sources and contentIt is a way of creating, GIVING and adding value

This is why in 2006, Time magazine declared YOU as the person of the year.This was a breakthrough as the YOU – that is the audience started becoming PRODUCERThat is when wikipedia’s contributor started increasing exponentiallyThat is when people started uploading videos on YouTubeThat is when people started bloggingThis is when people started categorizing content thru tagging and when taxonomy died and folksonomy was born
