Applying Genetic Algorithms to Information Retrieval Using Vector Space Model
Laith Mohammad Qasim Abualigah1 and Essam S.Hanandeh2, 1Al-abayt University,
Jordan and 2Zarqa University, Jordan
Abstract
Genetic algorithms are usually used in information retrieval systems (IRs) to enhance the
information retrieval process, and to increase the efficiency of the optimal information retrieval
in order to meet the usersโ€™ needs and help them find what they want exactly among the growing
numbers of available information. The improvement of adaptive genetic algorithms helps to
retrieve the information needed by the user accurately, reduces the retrieved relevant files and
excludes irrelevant files. In this study, the researcher explored the problems embedded in this
process, attempted to find solutions such as the way of choosing mutation probability and fitness
function, and chose Cranfield English Corpus test collection on mathematics. Such collection
was conducted by Cyrial Cleverdon and used at the University of Cranfield in 1960 containing
1400 documents, and 225 queries for simulation purposes. The researcher also used cosine
similarity and jaccards to compute similarity between the query and documents, and used two
proposed adaptive fitness function, mutation operators as well as adaptive crossover. The process
aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of results according to the measures of precision and recall.
Finally, the study concluded that we might have several improvements when using adaptive
genetic algorithms.

Study of Effectiveness of Time Series Modeling (Arima) in Forecasting Stock Prices
Prapanna Mondal, Labani Shit and Saptarsi Goswami, Institute of Engineering and
Management, India
Abstract
Stock price prediction has always attracted interest because of the direct financial benefit and the
associated complexity. From our literature review, we felt the need of a study having sector
specific analysis with a broad range of stocks. In this paper, we have conducted a study on the
effectiveness of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA)model, on fifty six Indian
stocks from different sectors. We have chosen ARIMA model, because of its simplicity and wide
acceptability of the model. We also have studied the effect on prediction accuracy based on
various possible previous period data taken. The comparison and parameterization of the
ARIMA model have been done using Akaike information criterion (AIC). The contribution of
the paper , are a) coverage of a good number of Indian stocks b) Analysis of the models based on
sectors c) Analysis of prediction accuracy based on the varying span of previous period data.

Classification Of Ecg Arrhythmias Using Discrete Wavelet Transform and Neural
Networks
Maedeh Kiani Sarkaleh and Asadollah Shahbahrami,University of Guilan, Iran
Abstract
Automatic recognition of cardiac arrhythmias is important for diagnosis of cardiac abnormalies.
Several algorithms have been proposed to classify ECG arrhythmias; however, they cannot
perform very well. Therefore, in this paper, an expert system for ElectroCardioGram (ECG)
arrhythmia classification is proposed. Discrete wavelet transform is used for processing ECG
recordings, and extracting some features, and the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural network
performs the classification task. Two types of arrhythmias can be detected by the proposed
system. Some recordings of the MIT-BIH arrhythmias database have been used for training and
testing our neural network based classifier. The simulation results show that the classification
accuracy of our algorithm is 96.5% using 10 files including normal and two arrhythmias.

Ayoubi Mobarhan, University of Guilan, Iran
Abstract
Compression is a technique to reduce the quantity of data without excessively reducing the
quality of the multimedia data. The transition and storing of compressed multimedia data is much
faster and more efficient than original uncompressed multimedia data. There are various
techniques and standards for multimedia data compression, especially for image compression
such as the JPEG and JPEG2000 standards. These standards consist of different functions such
as color space conversion and entropy coding. Arithmetic and Huffman coding are normally used
in the entropy coding phase. In this paper we try to answer the following question. Which
entropy coding, arithmetic or Huffman, is more suitable compared to other from the compression
ratio, performance, and implementation points of view? We have implemented and tested
Huffman and arithmetic algorithms. Our implemented results show that compression ratio of
arithmetic coding is better than Huffman coding, while the performance of the Huffman coding
is higher than arithmetic coding. In addition, implementation of Huffman coding is much easier
than the arithmetic coding

Abstract
Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a self-configuring network that is formed automatically via
wireless links by a collection of mobile nodes without the help of a fixed infrastructure or
centralized management. The mobile nodes allow communication among the nodes outside the
wireless transmission range by hop to hop and the forward packets to each other. Due to dynamic
infrastructure-less nature and lack of centralized monitoring points, the ad hoc networks are
vulnerable to attacks. The network performance and reliability is break by attacks on ad hoc
network routing protocols. AODV is a important on-demand reactive routing protocol for mobile
ad hoc networks. There is no any security provision against a โ€œBlack Holeโ€ and โ€œWormholeโ€
attacks in existing AODV protocol. Black hole nodes are those malicious nodes that conform to
forward packet to destination. But they do not forward packet intentionally to the destination
node. The black hole nodes degrade the performance of network eventually by participating in
the network actively. The propose watchdog mechanism detect the black hole nodes in a
MANET. This method first detects a black hole attack in the network and then provide a new
route to this node. In this, the performance of original AODV and modified AODV in the
presence of multiple black hole nodes is find out on the basis of throughput and packet delivery
ratio. In a wormhole attack, intruders tunnel the data from one end of the network to the other,
leading distant network nodes to trust they are neighborsโ€™ and making them communicate
through the wormhole link.

Design and Development of Automatic Water Flowmeter
Ria Sood1, Manjit Kaur1 and Hemant Lenka2, 1Academic and Consultancy Services-
Division, India and 2Digital Electronics and Communication Division (DECD), India
Abstract
Effective irrigation water management begins with timing and regulating irrigation water
application in a way that will satisfy the need of the crop without wasting water, soil and crop
nutrients. This involves supplying water according to the crop requirement, quantity that can be
held by the soil and is available to the crop at rates tolerated according to the soil characteristics.
So measuring water in fields is very essential step in irrigation management systems. There are
many water flow measurement techniques as well as different types of water flow meters used in
irrigation to measure the volume of water flow in pipelines but these all are too costly. This
paper describes design and development of low cost automatic water flow meter which supplies
only required amount of water to the crops saving water as well as energy. G1/2 Hall Effect
water flow sensor is used as a sensing unit with a turbine rotor inside it whose speed of rotation
changes with the different rate of flow of water. The Hall Effect sensor outputs the
corresponding pulse train for frequency input to the microcontroller. The whole system
comprises of AT89S52 microcontroller, G1/2 Hall Effect water flow sensor, relay, optocoupler, a
water pump, 5V supply, LCD, keypad and some passive components. The AT89S52
microcontroller is programmed in Keil development Tool.

RSDC (Reliable Scheduling Distributed in Cloud Computing)
Arash Ghorbannia Delavar, Mahdi Javanmard, Mehrdad Barzegar Shabestari and
Marjan Khosravi Talebi, Payame Noor Universtiy, Iran
Abstract
In this paper we will present a reliable scheduling algorithm in cloud computing environment. In
this algorithm we create a new algorithm by means of a new technique and with classification
and considering request and acknowledge time of jobs in a qualification function. By evaluating
the previous algorithms, we understand that the scheduling jobs have been performed by
parameters that are associated with a failure rate. Therefore in the proposed algorithm, in
addition to previous parameters, some other important parameters are used so we can gain the
jobs with different scheduling based on these parameters. This work is associated with a
mechanism. The major job is divided to sub jobs. In order to balance the jobs we should
calculate the request and acknowledge time separately. Then we create the scheduling of each
job by calculating the request and acknowledge time in the form of a shared job. Finally
efficiency of the system is increased. So the real time of this algorithm will be improved in
comparison with the other algorithms. Finally by the mechanism presented, the total time of
processing in cloud computing is improved in comparison with the other algorithms.

An Improved Round Robin CPU Scheduling Algorithm with Varying Time Quantum
Manish Kumar Mishra and Faizur Rashid, Haramaya University, Ethiopia
Abstract
Process management is one of the important tasks performed by the operating system. The
performance of the system depends on the CPU scheduling algorithms. The main aim of the CPU
scheduling algorithms is to minimize waiting time, turnaround time, response time and context
switching and maximizing CPU utilization. First-Come-First-Served (FCFS) Round Robin (RR),
Shortest Job First (SJF) and, Priority Scheduling are some popular CPU scheduling algorithms.
In time shared systems, Round Robin CPU scheduling is the preferred choice. In Round Robin
CPU scheduling, performance of the system depends on the choice of the optimal time quantum.
This paper presents an improved Round Robin CPU scheduling algorithm coined enhancing
CPU performance using the features of Shortest Job First and Round Robin scheduling with
varying time quantum. The proposed algorithm is experimentally proven better than
conventional RR. The simulation results show that the waiting time and turnaround time have
been reduced in the proposed algorithm compared to traditional RR.

  • 3. Applying Genetic Algorithms to Information Retrieval Using Vector Space Model Laith Mohammad Qasim Abualigah1 and Essam S.Hanandeh2, 1Al-abayt University, Jordan and 2Zarqa University, Jordan Abstract Genetic algorithms are usually used in information retrieval systems (IRs) to enhance the information retrieval process, and to increase the efficiency of the optimal information retrieval in order to meet the usersโ€™ needs and help them find what they want exactly among the growing numbers of available information. The improvement of adaptive genetic algorithms helps to retrieve the information needed by the user accurately, reduces the retrieved relevant files and excludes irrelevant files. In this study, the researcher explored the problems embedded in this process, attempted to find solutions such as the way of choosing mutation probability and fitness function, and chose Cranfield English Corpus test collection on mathematics. Such collection was conducted by Cyrial Cleverdon and used at the University of Cranfield in 1960 containing 1400 documents, and 225 queries for simulation purposes. The researcher also used cosine similarity and jaccards to compute similarity between the query and documents, and used two proposed adaptive fitness function, mutation operators as well as adaptive crossover. The process aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of results according to the measures of precision and recall. Finally, the study concluded that we might have several improvements when using adaptive genetic algorithms. Study of Effectiveness of Time Series Modeling (Arima) in Forecasting Stock Prices Prapanna Mondal, Labani Shit and Saptarsi Goswami, Institute of Engineering and Management, India Abstract Stock price prediction has always attracted interest because of the direct financial benefit and the associated complexity. From our literature review, we felt the need of a study having sector specific analysis with a broad range of stocks. In this paper, we have conducted a study on the effectiveness of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA)model, on fifty six Indian stocks from different sectors. We have chosen ARIMA model, because of its simplicity and wide acceptability of the model. We also have studied the effect on prediction accuracy based on various possible previous period data taken. The comparison and parameterization of the ARIMA model have been done using Akaike information criterion (AIC). The contribution of the paper , are a) coverage of a good number of Indian stocks b) Analysis of the models based on sectors c) Analysis of prediction accuracy based on the varying span of previous period data. • 5. Classification Of Ecg Arrhythmias Using Discrete Wavelet Transform and Neural Networks Maedeh Kiani Sarkaleh and Asadollah Shahbahrami,University of Guilan, Iran Abstract Automatic recognition of cardiac arrhythmias is important for diagnosis of cardiac abnormalies. Several algorithms have been proposed to classify ECG arrhythmias; however, they cannot perform very well. Therefore, in this paper, an expert system for ElectroCardioGram (ECG) arrhythmia classification is proposed. Discrete wavelet transform is used for processing ECG recordings, and extracting some features, and the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural network performs the classification task. Two types of arrhythmias can be detected by the proposed system. Some recordings of the MIT-BIH arrhythmias database have been used for training and testing our neural network based classifier. The simulation results show that the classification accuracy of our algorithm is 96.5% using 10 files including normal and two arrhythmias. • 7. Evaluation of Huffman and Arithmetic Algorithms for Multimedia Compression Standards Asadollah Shahbahrami, Ramin Bahrampour,Mobin Sabbaghi Rostami and Mostafa Ayoubi Mobarhan, University of Guilan, Iran Abstract Compression is a technique to reduce the quantity of data without excessively reducing the quality of the multimedia data. The transition and storing of compressed multimedia data is much faster and more efficient than original uncompressed multimedia data. There are various techniques and standards for multimedia data compression, especially for image compression such as the JPEG and JPEG2000 standards. These standards consist of different functions such as color space conversion and entropy coding. Arithmetic and Huffman coding are normally used in the entropy coding phase. In this paper we try to answer the following question. Which entropy coding, arithmetic or Huffman, is more suitable compared to other from the compression ratio, performance, and implementation points of view? We have implemented and tested Huffman and arithmetic algorithms. Our implemented results show that compression ratio of arithmetic coding is better than Huffman coding, while the performance of the Huffman coding is higher than arithmetic coding. In addition, implementation of Huffman coding is much easier than the arithmetic coding Keywords Multimedia Compression, JPEG standard, Arithmetic coding, Huffmancoding. https://airccse.org/journal/ijcsea/papers/0811ijcsea04.pdf
  • 8. Black-Hole and Wormhole Attack in Routing Protocol AODV in MANET Amol A. Bhosle, Tushar P. Thosar and Snehal Mehatre, JDIET, India Abstract Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a self-configuring network that is formed automatically via wireless links by a collection of mobile nodes without the help of a fixed infrastructure or centralized management. The mobile nodes allow communication among the nodes outside the wireless transmission range by hop to hop and the forward packets to each other. Due to dynamic infrastructure-less nature and lack of centralized monitoring points, the ad hoc networks are vulnerable to attacks. The network performance and reliability is break by attacks on ad hoc network routing protocols. AODV is a important on-demand reactive routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks. There is no any security provision against a โ€œBlack Holeโ€ and โ€œWormholeโ€ attacks in existing AODV protocol. Black hole nodes are those malicious nodes that conform to forward packet to destination. But they do not forward packet intentionally to the destination node. The black hole nodes degrade the performance of network eventually by participating in the network actively. The propose watchdog mechanism detect the black hole nodes in a MANET. This method first detects a black hole attack in the network and then provide a new route to this node. In this, the performance of original AODV and modified AODV in the presence of multiple black hole nodes is find out on the basis of throughput and packet delivery ratio. • 10. Design and Development of Automatic Water Flowmeter Ria Sood1, Manjit Kaur1 and Hemant Lenka2, 1Academic and Consultancy Services- Division, India and 2Digital Electronics and Communication Division (DECD), India Abstract Effective irrigation water management begins with timing and regulating irrigation water application in a way that will satisfy the need of the crop without wasting water, soil and crop nutrients. This involves supplying water according to the crop requirement, quantity that can be held by the soil and is available to the crop at rates tolerated according to the soil characteristics. So measuring water in fields is very essential step in irrigation management systems. There are many water flow measurement techniques as well as different types of water flow meters used in irrigation to measure the volume of water flow in pipelines but these all are too costly. This paper describes design and development of low cost automatic water flow meter which supplies only required amount of water to the crops saving water as well as energy. • 11. RSDC (Reliable Scheduling Distributed in Cloud Computing) Arash Ghorbannia Delavar, Mahdi Javanmard, Mehrdad Barzegar Shabestari and Marjan Khosravi Talebi, Payame Noor Universtiy, Iran Abstract In this paper we will present a reliable scheduling algorithm in cloud computing environment. In this algorithm we create a new algorithm by means of a new technique and with classification and considering request and acknowledge time of jobs in a qualification function. By evaluating the previous algorithms, we understand that the scheduling jobs have been performed by parameters that are associated with a failure rate. Therefore in the proposed algorithm, in addition to previous parameters, some other important parameters are used so we can gain the jobs with different scheduling based on these parameters. This work is associated with a mechanism. The major job is divided to sub jobs. In order to balance the jobs we should calculate the request and acknowledge time separately. Then we create the scheduling of each job by calculating the request and acknowledge time in the form of a shared job. Finally efficiency of the system is increased. So the real time of this algorithm will be improved in comparison with the other algorithms. Finally by the mechanism presented, the total time of processing in cloud computing is improved in comparison with the other algorithms. • 12. An Improved Round Robin CPU Scheduling Algorithm with Varying Time Quantum Manish Kumar Mishra and Faizur Rashid, Haramaya University, Ethiopia Abstract Process management is one of the important tasks performed by the operating system. The performance of the system depends on the CPU scheduling algorithms. The main aim of the CPU scheduling algorithms is to minimize waiting time, turnaround time, response time and context switching and maximizing CPU utilization. First-Come-First-Served (FCFS) Round Robin (RR), Shortest Job First (SJF) and, Priority Scheduling are some popular CPU scheduling algorithms. In time shared systems, Round Robin CPU scheduling is the preferred choice. In Round Robin CPU scheduling, performance of the system depends on the choice of the optimal time quantum.
