Engineering Week -like (aka Career Day) presentation targeted toward middle schoolers. This discusses what engineers do, similarity to inventors, famous inventors, a "make a sandwich" instructions exercise, and engineering career information.
4. DEFINITION
Engineers are changing the world all of the time.
They dream up creative, practical solutions and
work with other smart, inspiring people to
invent, design, and create things that matter.
Or simply…
Engineers are like inventors!

The microwave oven was invented by accident, when a scientist found that his chocolate bar had been melted by an experiment he was running on radar systems -- the kind that locate flying objects miles away. Percy Spencer was running an experiment to try to find new uses for radar, because World War II had just ended, and spotting enemy planes was no longer a driving concern. Spencer reached into his labcoat pocket one day during the experiment, and found that the chocolate bar he was looking forward to eating had melted into a soggy mess.Engineers help design radars and candy bar wrappersImage credits:battleship-radar-thumb2049601.jpg - www.dreamstime.com - 233 × 350Melted chocolate bar [384GAN00370] - www.visualphotos.com - 700 × 447
