iCamp is a day-long event that helps participant learn to rapidly design and prototype ICT4D solutions into your program implementation.

2. In November 2017, InSTEDD iLab Southeast Asia organized an iCamp at the InSTEDD iLab Office in Phnom
Penh. The day’s focus on was on how to help the youth to protect their health from preventable lifestyle disease.
Participants from eleven institutions from Government and NGOs collaborated together.

4. 1. How to inform youth about the effect of being
overweight and how to reduce the advertising of
detrimental products such as cigarettes.
2. How to communicate with advertising stakeholders
about harmful products that are affecting the health of
the youth.
3. How to change youth mindset to not follow the bad
examples of their peers. And how to help the youth have
knowledge of the most common lifestyle diseases.
4. How to help youth to implement and keep a good daily
habit, such as doing exercise
5. How to encourage parents to consider their children’s
physical health.
Seven challenges to help youth to prevent their health
from lifestyle disease were raised by participants:

further discussing, brainstorming and prototyping:

9. Once the groups brainstormed, debated, and sketched out their prototype visions, they then shared their ideas
with the rest of the groups, received additional feedback, and landed on three design prototypes.

11. 1. Educate Youth of the impact of lifestyle disease.
To educate youth to prevent themselves from lifestyle disease, the team proposed to
produce various 1 to 3 minute video clips, to be easily shared on social media and
elsewhere.

12. 2. Communicate with advertising stakeholders about harmful
products that are affecting the health of the youth.
The team believes that through research and focused reporting, a strategic approach
involving advertising data and the impact on the health of the youth, reports could be
brought to advertising stakeholders, including departments of government. The team
believes that through impactful data, the Cambodian government can limit the amount
of harmful product advertising to youth.

13. 3. Educate youth about the benefits of proper nutrition, exercise,
mental health and mindset.
In order to educate youth about nutrition, exercise, mental health and their mindset,
the team thought of developing a mobile application that could educate youth about
these issues in an entertaining way.

14. At the end of the day, the iCamp created three design prototypes from the initially defined seven challenges. The
InSTEDD iLab, along with participating organizations, will continue to work on the development of these
proposed solutions against dangerous NCDs affecting the youth.

15. Another iCamp comes to its completion. This time with the goal of protecting the youth of Cambodia from
dangerous lifestyle choices. iCamp events are just one example of how the iLab Southeast Asia is
connecting subject matter experts, designers, and programmers on a local level.
