Transformations linked to disruptive events are causing a shift in Future-oriented Technology Analysis (FTA) activities from individual large-scale foresight actions to smaller in-house exercises and capacity-building. The reasons are manifold relating to the need for an even tighter embedding of FTA in policy-making in a fast-changing, complex environment as well as to internal drivers for novel forms of future intelligence to support coordinated and coherent decisions within and across organisations. The paper identifies three ideal types; external FTA services, the institutionalisation of FTA, and FTA networks, whilst recognising that in practice these types are complementary. In empirical terms this requires further investigation, in order to understand how different combinations of activities in effect operate in their respective decision-making context. It is important to improve our understanding of how far institutionalised FTA can form part of the solution for building capacity to handle disruptions. Many sorts of combinations of elements from different organisational models are needed to enable learning, experimentation and capability development appropriate for the wider decision making context in which FTA is embedded. This paper explores the extent to which FTA can provide enhanced support to decision-making through customised organisational models and corresponding capability thus enabling them to anticipate and address disruptive change and associated challenges.

This study sought to establish the influence of monitoring and evaluation tools usage on agricultural project success. The main tools that study focused on were; Mobile Application, Logical Framework, Monitoring and Evaluation plan, and Data Dashboard. The four main objective that guided the study includes: To establish how Mobile Application usage influences agricultural project success in NGO`s, in Kenya, To determine how Logical framework usage influences agricultural project success in NGO`s, in Kenya, To establish how Monitoring and evaluation plan usage influences agricultural project success in NGO`s, in Kenya and To find out how Data dashboard usage influences agricultural project success in NGO`s, in Kenya. The study adopted descriptive research design while targeting 56 Project and Monitoring and Evaluation employees at Farm Africa. Questionnaire was used to collect data. Final collected data was analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methods together will linear regression model. Qualitative data was coded to their respective variable in the study for easier analysis while quantitative was summarized by obtaining descriptive statistics. The data was presented inform of tables and graphs. The SPSS and Excel software’s was used to model and obtain summary tables and graphs. The multiple linear regression and Pearson pairwise correlation was used to model the data. On average 79% of the respondents, revealed monitoring and evaluation had high extent influence on project success. All the five monitoring and evalation tools, Mobile applications, Logical framework, monitoring and evaluation plan and data dashbord shown strong positive correlation with project success. Further Study revealed evidence of positive influence of monitoring and evaluation tools on agricultural project success. From the results 83.2% of the changes in project success can be explained by monitoring and evaluation tools studied while the remaining 16.8% can be explained using other factors which are not part of the regression model. The study concluded the strength of Mobile applications, Logical framework, monitoring and evaluation plan and data dashbord is very important for the poject success and management should incorporate these tools during project implementation.

The initiative’s main objective is to promote a rethink of how we measure our impacts on market systems and their evolution towards more inclusion, productivity and efficiency (i.e. how do we know that the markets systems we work with are actually going to continue reducing poverty and protecting the environment even after we have left the scene). The paper is a live document and it is intended to evolve with the conversations that donors, academic researchers, and practitioners working in inclusive market development and finance/microfinance development. Most of these conversations will take place in MaFI, in USAID’s Microlinks (23-25 Oct, 2012) and the SEEP 2012 Annual Conference. The basic argument of this paper is that successful contributions in developing countries that are made with, and through, ICT are partly dependent on the health of the relationship between partners. The research was conducted in 10 projects involving multinational ICT companies. It was found that problems with partner cooperation revolve around six core categories namely driving force factors, skill factors, input-output factors, socio-cultural factors, systems factors, and trust factors.

41 3 TeChnology as a vaRiable anD Responsive oRganizaTional Dynamism Introduction This chapter focuses on defining the components of technology and how they affect corporate organizations. In other words, if we step back momentarily from the specific challenges that information technology (IT) poses, we might ask the following: What are the generic aspects of technology that have made it an integral part of strategic and competitive advantage for many organizations? How do organizations respond to these generic aspects as catalysts of change? Furthermore, how do we objectively view the role of technology in this context, and how should organizations adjust to its short- and long-term impacts? Technological Dynamism To begin, technology can be regarded as a variable, independent of others, that contributes to the life of a business operation. It is capable of producing an overall, totalizing, yet distinctive, effect on organizations— it has the unique capacity to create accelerations of corporate events in an unpredictable way. Technology, in its aspect of unpredictability, is necessarily a variable, and in its capacity as accel- erator— its tendency to produce change or advance— it is dynamic. My contention is that, as a dynamic kind of variable, technology, via responsive handling or management, can be tapped to play a special role in organizational development. It can be pressed into service as the dynamic catalyst that helps bring organizations to maturity in dealing not only with new technological quandaries, but also with other agents of change. Change generates new knowledge, which in turn requires a structure of learning that should, if managed properly, 42 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY result in transformative behavior, supporting the continued evolution of organizational culture. Specifically, technology speeds up events, such as the expectation of getting a response to an e-mail, and requires organizations to respond to them in ever-quickening time frames. Such events are not as predictable as those experienced by individuals in organizations prior to the advent of new technologies— particularly with the meteoric advance of the Internet. In viewing technology then as a dynamic variable, and one that requires systemic and cultural organizational change, we may regard it as an inherent, internal driving force— a form of technological dynamism. Dynamism is defined as a process or mechanism responsible for the development or motion of a system. Technological dynamism charac- terizes the unpredictable and accelerated ways in which technology, specifically, can change strategic planning and organizational behavior/culture. This change is based on the acceleration of events and interactions within organizations, which in turn create the need to better empower individuals and departments. There are systems methods and evolutionary processes that can help organisations understand the innovative patterns and competitive mechanisms that influence the creation, management and exploitation of technology. This paper presents a specific model based on the evolutionary processes of variation, selection, retention and struggle, coupled with fitness landscape theory. This latter concept is a complex adaptive systems theory that has attained recognition as an approach for visually mapping the strategic options an evolving system could pursue. The relevance and utility of fitness landscape theory to the strategic management of technology is explored, and a definition and model of technological fitness provided. The complex adaptive systems perspective adopted by this paper, views organisations as evolving systems that formulate strategies by classifying, selecting, adopting and exploiting various combinations of technological capabilities. A model called the strategy configuration chain is presented to illustrate this strategic process.

As a result, at a company level there is a progressive shift towards an external perspective with the design and implementation of new management strategies, which are generally named with the term of supply chain management (SCM). However, despite the flourish of several IT solutions in this context, there are still evident hurdles to overcome, mainly due to the major complexity of the problems to be tackled in a logistics network and to the conflicts resulting from local objectives versus network strategies. Among the techniques supporting a multi-decisional context, as a supply chain (SC) is, simulation can undoubtedly play an important role, above all for its main property to provide what-if analysis and to evaluate quantitatively benefits and issues deriving from operating in a co-operative environment rather than playing a pure transaction role with the upstream/downstream tiers. Also business processes must be aligned to IT to ensure the proper functionality of their services even after changes are propagated. Hence there should be an effective framework for managing these changes without affecting the business functionality.
