The capital of Ireland  is Dublin & the capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast The most important cities of Ireland are: Dublin, Belfast, Derry, Sligo, Galway, Killarney, Cork and Waterford ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Ireland is a very green island and it is considered the emerald island because it is very green.
It rains a lot in Ireland that’s why it is very green and it is full of lakes, ponds and rivers.
This is one of the ponds of Saint Stephen’s Green park in Dublin

The Republic of Ireland has 4’5 million people and only Dublin has 1’7 million people. Dublin is very touristy and has some top attractions such as The Temple Bar area shown in these pictures.

This is Dublin Castle, the symbol of the British power on the Irish capital for long seven centuries till the Independence of the Republic of Ireland.
Saint Patricks’s cathedral in Dublin. Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint in Ireland. The largest Irish religious group is the Catholic with 85 % of the population and only the 15 % is Protestant.
The Guinness Storehouse where the famous Irish beer is made.
The Spire was put up in 2003. It is in front of the GPO and it is next to Daniel O’Connell statue, The Liberator. The General Post Office (GPO) was bombed by the British in 1916 and became the symbol of freedom for Ireland. It was proclaimed the independence here. There was  a lot of fighting and shooting there during the Easter Rising, 1916. You can still see the bullets holes in the pillars.
This is the most famous prison in Ireland. A lot of political Irish leaders were executed here. Kilmainham is a historic symbol in the Irish Independency from the British power. Kilmainham Gaol
The Irish Great Famine Memorial. In 1845 death strikes all over the country. A disease in the potato crop killed about one million people and thousands of people emigrate to other countries.
The high Celtic Crosses of Monasterboice. They show the beginnings of the early Christian Ireland.
Belfast city is divided into two parts: The Catholic part and the Protestant part. A wall splits the city in two halves. There is only a neutral part where both parts go. It is the Town Hall. The city is full of wall paintings. The catholic part has wall paintings that ask for the independence of Ireland and the protestant part support the British, the United Kingdom
Carrick-a-rede bridge This suspension bridge was used by the fishers in order to get lots of salmons. It is built by some tied ropes and wood boards to cross it.
There are many interesting places to visit in the island. One of the most important places is  The Giant’s Causeway. It is a spectacular view.
The Giant’s Causeway  It is a Unesco World Heritage Site. This astonishing complex is over 38,000 mainly hexagonal shaped basalt columns packed closely together. The columns were formed over 60 million years ago from a vast volcanic eruption.
The Giant’s Causeway. This is the area beside the sea with thousands of basalt columns. Although most of the columns are hexagonal, there are also some with four, five, six, seven and eight sides.
This city has also two parts and it is full of wall paintings from bogside artists. The protestants called the city Londonderry and the Catholics called it Derry.  Derry in Northern Ireland
Much of the island is covered with pasture and there are many species of wild flowers and some small forests with pines, oaks and beeches.
The climate of the island is mild, that is why a lot of sub-tropical species such as palm trees are grown in Ireland.
Sligo Ireland is full of colourful towns and cities.

The Cliffs of Moher are in the region of the Burren and have very spectacular views with heights of more than 200 metres  and 8 km long.
