CARDIAC FIRST RESPONDER COMMUNITY
COURSE DURATION:
The course duration is 4 hours plus of training, generally over one day.

The course is designed to allow participants attain a basic understanding of Basic Life Support
situations and their treatment. This course is Level 1 on the PHECC (Pre-Hospital Emergency
Care Council) Training Standards.

COURSE CONTENT:	
The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations
and interactive DVDs. The demonstration element is key in allowing the learner to achieve the
relevant competencies and our instructors place emphasis on ensuring that learners achieve
these competencies through demonstration and student practice.

STUDENT LEARNING MATERIAL:
Each student will receive the following, included as part of the course fee:
•	 Face Mask
•	 Cardiac First Responder Manual
•	 RED Card

This manual is essential in assisting the student to achieve key competencies in their training
and ensuring that they have reference and practice material which they can use in their own
time following the course.

EXAMINATION:
There is no exam on this course.
•	 Skills Assesment on CPR skills

CERTIFICATION:
Successful completion of the course results in the issue of a certificate for each candidate by the
Irish Red Cross and PHECC upon payment of the course fee.

INSTRUCTORS & EXAMINERS:
The Irish Red Cross has a pool of over 200 fully qualified instructors nationwide and has training
centres throughout the country. This means we are the only training provider that can conduct
training in multiple locations for both public and in-house (at the customer’s venue) courses for
ultimate convenience.




100% of the profits of this course are used by the
Irish Red Cross for our charitable activities, with
about 87% of profits going into your local area.
EMERGENCY FIRST AID
COURSE DURATION:	
The course duration is 8 hours of training, generally over one day.

The course is designed to allow participants attain a basic understanding of key First Aid
situations and their treatment. It will enable participants to act as a back up to Occupational
First Aiders in an occupational setting and/or respond to an emergency prior to the arrival of
more qualified personnel.

COURSE CONTENT:	
The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations and
interactive DVDs using a watch then practice method.

2.	Casualty Assessment                                 7.	 Musculoskeletal Injuries

CERTIFICATION:
Full attendance at this course results in the issue of a certificate for each candidate by the
Irish Red Cross upon payment of the course fee.

HEARTSAVER AED
COURSE DURATION:	
The course duration is 3½-4 hours of training, generally over a half-day.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:	
The course is designed to show how to respond to a cardiac emergency, including the use
of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

COURSE CONTENT:	
The programme is delivered using interactive DVDs using a watch then practice method.
Our instructors place emphasis on ensuring that learners achieve skill competence through
demonstration and student practice.


The aims of the course are to enable the participant to:
•	 Perform CPR in Adults, Children & Infants
•	 Provide assistance for Choking in Adults, Children & Infants
•	 Use of barrier devices
•	 Use of AED


COURSE VENUE:	
Can be held on Client’s site or at an alternative venue (client or IRC). Where course is held on
Client’s site, the room will need to allow for both digital projection and practical scenarios.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS:	
•	 Family, friends and members of the general community who want to learn CPR
•	 Those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job
	 responsibilities or regulatory requirements
•	 This program also can be done for schools

OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID (FETAC Level 5)
COURSE DURATION:	
The course is completed over 24 hours of training, generally over three days. The days
can be consecutive or spread over three weeks, for example.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:	
The Irish Red Cross is an accredited HSA and OFAAA Occupational First Aid training
provider and the syllabus for OFA training is as required by the HSA.

COURSE CONTENT:	
The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations
designed specifically for the Irish Red Cross OFA Course and interactive DVDs using a
watch then practice method.

•	 Irish Red Cross Practical First Aid Workbook & Scenarios
•	 PHECC Cardiac First Responder Manual
•	 First Aid Training Pack (including bandages, CPR pocket mask, gloves, etc)

This package is essential in assisting the student to achieve key competencies in their
training and ensuring that they have reference and practice material that they can use in
their own time following the course.

EXAMINATION:
There is a written exam and skill based test and the end of this course.

CERTIFICATION:
Successful completion of the course and prescribed examination results in the issue of a
letter of completion for each candidate by the Irish Red Cross. The Irish Red Cross will submit
the successful candidate details to the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC)
for a certificate at Level 5. During this period, the letter of completion will be accepted by the HSA
and the OFAAA as proof of course completion.

PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID
COURSE DURATION:	
The course duration is 8 hours of training, generally over one day.

situations and their treatment for the Paediatric patient.

COURSE CONTENT:	
The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations and
interactive DVDs using a watch then practice method. There key items covered on the course are:


1.	An introduction to Paediatric First Aid           6.	Musculoskeletal Injuries
2.	Paediatric Casualty Assessment                    7.	 Burns
3.	CPR and choking on children and infants           8.	Poisons
4.	Wounds and Bleeding                               9.	Medical conditions specific to children
5.	Altered levels of consciousness

  • 4. WE OFFER A RANGE OF SERVICES DESIGNED TO HELP YOU WITH HEALTH & SAFETY REGULATIONS. OUR SERVICES ARE DELIVERED AND SUPPORTED BY EXPERIENCED PERSONNEL.
  • 5. CARDIAC FIRST RESPONDER COMMUNITY COURSE DURATION: The course duration is 4 hours plus of training, generally over one day. The course is designed to allow participants attain a basic understanding of Basic Life Support situations and their treatment. This course is Level 1 on the PHECC (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council) Training Standards. COURSE CONTENT: The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations and interactive DVDs. The demonstration element is key in allowing the learner to achieve the relevant competencies and our instructors place emphasis on ensuring that learners achieve these competencies through demonstration and student practice. There key items covered on the course are: 1. An introduction to Sudden Cardiac Death 7. Optional: 2. Heart Disease • Child CPR 3. CPR - Adult • Child Foreign Body Airway Obstruction 4. Foreign Body Airway Obstruction - Adult • Infant CPR 5. AED Operation • Infant Foreign Body Airway Obstruction 6. Stroke – including FAST assessment STUDENT LEARNING MATERIAL: Each student will receive the following, included as part of the course fee: • Face Mask • Cardiac First Responder Manual • RED Card This manual is essential in assisting the student to achieve key competencies in their training and ensuring that they have reference and practice material which they can use in their own time following the course. EXAMINATION: There is no exam on this course. • Skills Assesment on CPR skills CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of the course results in the issue of a certificate for each candidate by the Irish Red Cross and PHECC upon payment of the course fee. INSTRUCTORS & EXAMINERS: The Irish Red Cross has a pool of over 200 fully qualified instructors nationwide and has training centres throughout the country. This means we are the only training provider that can conduct training in multiple locations for both public and in-house (at the customer’s venue) courses for ultimate convenience. 100% of the profits of this course are used by the Irish Red Cross for our charitable activities, with about 87% of profits going into your local area.
  • 6. EMERGENCY FIRST AID COURSE DURATION: The course duration is 8 hours of training, generally over one day. The course is designed to allow participants attain a basic understanding of key First Aid situations and their treatment. It will enable participants to act as a back up to Occupational First Aiders in an occupational setting and/or respond to an emergency prior to the arrival of more qualified personnel. COURSE CONTENT: The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations and interactive DVDs using a watch then practice method. MODULES: 1. An introduction to First Aid 6. Altered levels of consciousness 2. Casualty Assessment 7. Musculoskeletal Injuries 3. Heart Disease 8. Burns 4. CPR and choking on adults 9. Poisons 5. Wounds and Bleeding EXAMINATION: There is no exam on this course. CERTIFICATION: Full attendance at this course results in the issue of a certificate for each candidate by the Irish Red Cross upon payment of the course fee. INSTRUCTORS & EXAMINERS: The Irish Red Cross has a pool of over 200 fully qualified instructors nationwide and has training centres throughout the country. This means we are the only training provider that can conduct training in multiple locations for both public and in-house (at the customer’s venue) courses for ultimate convenience. 100% of the profits of this course are used by the Irish Red Cross for our charitable activities, with about 87% of profits going into your local area.
  • 7. HEARTSAVER AED COURSE DURATION: The course duration is 3½-4 hours of training, generally over a half-day. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course is designed to show how to respond to a cardiac emergency, including the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). COURSE CONTENT: The programme is delivered using interactive DVDs using a watch then practice method. Our instructors place emphasis on ensuring that learners achieve skill competence through demonstration and student practice. The aims of the course are to enable the participant to: • Perform CPR in Adults, Children & Infants • Provide assistance for Choking in Adults, Children & Infants • Use of barrier devices • Use of AED COURSE VENUE: Can be held on Client’s site or at an alternative venue (client or IRC). Where course is held on Client’s site, the room will need to allow for both digital projection and practical scenarios. TARGET PARTICIPANTS: • Family, friends and members of the general community who want to learn CPR • Those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements • This program also can be done for schools STUDENT LEARNING MATERIAL: No student materials are used on this course. EXAMINATION: There is a skills based test at the end of this course. CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of the course results in the issue of a certificate for each candidate by the Irish Red Cross. INSTRUCTORS & EXAMINERS: The Irish Red Cross has a pool of over 200 fully qualified instructors nationwide each who have extensive qualifications in the pre-hospital care area.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course is designed to give attendees a thorough understanding of the Manual Handling of Inanimate Loads, including Animate Loads (People). COURSE CONTENT: The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations and practical elements. MODULES: 1. Introduction to Safer Manual Handling 2. Spinal Awareness 3. Keeping Your Back Healthy 4. Principles of Safer Handling of Loads 5. Personal Risk Assessment 6. Formal Risk Assessment 7. Practical Session STUDENT LEARNING MATERIAL: Each student will receive the Irish Red Cross Animate Student Workbook. The days can be consecutive or spread over three weeks, for example. EXAMINATION: There is a written exam and skill based test and the end of this course. CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of the course and prescribed examination results in the issue of a letter of completion for each candidate by the Irish Red Cross. The Irish Red Cross will submit the successful candidate details to the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) for a certificate at Level 5. During this period, the letter of completion will be accepted by the HSA and the OFAAA as proof of course completion.
