Zip cloud quick-start_guide
1. Zip Cloud Quick Start Guide
You have made a great decision choosing Zip Cloud, your files will now be safe and accessible from any device with an internet connection.
The Zip Cloud service is split across three main areas:
Zip Cloud Application
This will be installed on your Mac and be accessible from your Applications
folder and can easily be pinned to your dock by Ctrl + Clicking on the Zip
Cloud icon selecting Options > Keep in Dock.
The Control Panel - http://my.zipcloud.com
Accessing the control panel is easy from any computer or mobile device
that has an internet connection, simply visit the URL above and sign in
with your email address and password. Simply put the control panel is
where you see your backed up files, synced files and account information.
The Sync Folder
Available as a normal folder within Home on your Mac. Or you can access all
files contained in the Sync folder from the control panel. The Sync folder
mirrors a folder on one computer on another.
2. The Application
The Application is the hub for setting up and running backups.
Below is a screenshot of what the main application window looks like:
You can drag and drop files here for
immediate backup. We advise doing
this for smaller files you want to add
to backups, but not using it to backup
all your files.
Clicking here will allow you to restore
files previously backed up to the
computer you are on.
Clicking here will open the sync folder
on this computer in a Finder window.
Clicking here will take you directly to
our Help Center on our website.
This is where your application version
is displayed.
This is an overview of the space used
on your account, how your backup
schedule is setup and when the last
and next backup commenced or
commences.
Clicking here will display all the
settings that effect how the backup
runs and what files are included.
Clicking here takes you to your
control panel where you can see all
of your backed up and synced files.
Clicking here will begin a new backup.
3. The Control Panel
The control panel, or dashboard, is accessible from any internet browser. From the dashboard you can view what files are backed up and download them
locally to the computer you are currently working on.
Here you can also see an overview of your account with regards to what computers are linked to your account, recent backup activity, your billing
information, details of how much space you have used and how many files you have uploaded.
Files & Data
Under Files & Data you can view and download any of the
files and folders that have been backed up.
My Devices
Under My Devices all the computers linked to your
account are displayed and detailed statistics about
backup events can be viewed.
Sharing
Any folders or files you have shared or thers have shared
with you can be viewed and controlled under the sharing
tab.
Referrals
Referring friends to ZipCloud can earn you extra space,
under the referrals tab you can invite friends through
Email, Facebook and Twitter.
My Account
Within My Account is all the account billing information,
add-on services available and a health check of the
account.
4. The Sync Folder
The Sync folder is found in Finder > Home and works pretty much like any
normal Finder folder.
However, whatever you add to the sync folder is immediately available
on any other computers you have the Zip Cloud Sync Folder installed on.
Syncing mirrors a folder on one computer on another.
Synced files are the same whether you are on your work computer, laptop
or home Mac or PC. This means you can start your work at the office and
finish it at home.
If any changes are made to a synced file from any computer it updates it
everywhere. This is a really handy feature and saves you from carrying
around USB flash drives.
The Sync folder supplies you with 1GB of space to synchronise files with,
if that is not enough, we offer additional add-ons to give you more if need
be.
To add files or whole folders into the sync folder really could not be simpler.
By dragging a file into the sync folder it will take a moment to fully sync
and then be available in all computers you have your sync folder installed
on.
Once a file has completed syncing you will see the file name turn green
confirming it is fully synced.
