1. Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Emergency Exits in all buildings here at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown,
Dublin are clearly marked with a green “running man”.
These exits have either a pushbar or magnetic lock.
In the event of a fire alarm activation, the magnetic lock will automatically release.
The fire alarm is a continuous high-pitched ring. On hearing the evacuation alarm:
○ the last person to leave a room should close the door behind him / her
if it is safe to do so. Do not lock the door and do not return for personal
belongings
○ leave the building by the nearest emergency exit (note that this may not
be the exit you normally use for access)
○ proceed to the assembly point in the carpark.
○ do not re-enter the building until authorised to do so by the Estates
Manager or his authorized representative.
○ cooperate with Caretakers and Security and follow their instructions during
an alarm activation
Failure to comply with Evacuation Procedures is a disciplinary offence.
