Good afternoon, I’m Sophia Elliott. I’m Pedagogical Consultant for itslearning and Thank you for joining us for this webinar. It’s lovely to have you along to the first Learning Thursday webinar.
The idea of Learning Thursdays is to provide a monthly free webinar programme that gives you bite-size information about different education challenges you might be facing in your school and how to overcome them using itslearning. We’ll aim to deliver a Learning Thursday webinar on the last day of every month.
In this month's webinar, we are going to look at the new itslearning app to improve communication between you and your learners and how it will benefit teaching and learning in your school.
First of all, why has the app been developed? Who’s it for?
The itslearning App has been designed primarily for your students to encourage independent and student-centred learning. The App gives students a simple overview of their school work from their mobile phone; which I’m sure you’ll agree is the device they look at and access the most! The App will sends them notifications when any teacher makes a change in itslearning ensuring that students always know what they have to do and when.
The App addresses three key priorities:
Firstly, Student Organisation:
Students can now get organised with the App generating a Task list of work set, including details and deadlines all accessible from their smart phone. Students can even respond to assignments or tests directly from their phone, enabling anytime, anywhere learning.
The App also links to the school calendar set up on the itslearning site and will synchronises with your students’ devices, meaning that key school dates and course deadlines will never be missed.
With instant notifications and reminders at their fingertips your students will be organised and ready for anything!
Secondly the App supports Student - Teacher Communication:
Through the secure App environment, students can message their teachers and classmates instantly and it be delivered directly to their phone. This is useful if students are struggling with a concept or theory and would rather let the teacher know they need help, rather than openly having to raise their hand. It also can help students organise collaborative activities online or contribute to discussion forums.
Finally timely Assessment for Learning can be provided instantaneously through the App:
Students often wait impatiently for feedback, so a notification delivered directly to their phone speeds up the process, allowing for timely and accessible instant feedback on assignments and tests as soon as the teacher has marked them - helping them reflect on their experience and improve on their performance.
