A little bit about me – and why I’m uniquely
qualified to talk about BigData to you guys
Imperial College
London
BUSINESS SCHOOL

I am championing two MBA projects (assessed
coursework) that involve BigData.

I was trained in the use of BigData analytical techniques,
and used these in live projects.
I qualified as a Chartered Accountant – we are known for
our quantitative skills, professionalism and expertise.
I worked in Brunei’s IT industry for 3 years – so I
appreciate the environment

It’s an evolution in the way data-driven decisions are made. “But we don’t use data to drive decisions!” “But we don’t even have SMALL data!” #BigData It’s more relevant thank you think! Source: 1. A little bit about me – and why I’m uniquely qualified to talk about BigData to you guys Imperial College London BUSINESS SCHOOL I am championing two MBA projects (assessed coursework) that involve BigData. I was trained in the use of BigData analytical techniques, and used these in live projects. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant – we are known for our quantitative skills, professionalism and expertise. BigData demonstration using Tableau and a public data set Data sets Tableau • 68m rows (natality) • 164k rows (shakespeare) • FYI Excel can access a maximum of 1m rows • One of my consulting projects involved a dataset of ~1m rows. It took us > 1 1 minute to build a report. 11 Google BigQuery • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) • A tool to analyse billions of rows in a highly scalable fashion • One of the most disruptive Google technologies • Leading provider of data visualization tools • Freely available version “Tableau Public” can analyse up to 1m rows.   • 12. To adopt BigData practices, start with the Strategy! Then align infrastructure & human resources to the Strategy. HR Infra Strategy 12 BigData presented by @izamryan • Strategy – what is the core capability of your organisation? ‒ Maximising profit per customer through selling a portfolio of services ‒ Selecting, training and developing the next generation of leaders • Infrastructure – do you have systems and processes in place to support the strategy? ‒ Do you track customer interactions? ‒ Which are your most profitable customers?
