10. Radio Aire The owner of the station is Bauer Radio. 96.3 Radio Aire is the Big City radio station for Leeds and the surrounding area. The station was launched in September 1981, and has won many awards including Sony Gold for their afternoon show. Radio Aire is unashamedly Leeds, the only local station dedicated to the city. 14. New Technologies The BBC and Commercial radios are doing a variety of things to improve their stations and introduce new technologies. They have abled you to access the radio stations via the internet and on digital TV. This new technology has revolutionised the radio station, more people can access them whenever they want wherever they are.
15. Nonfor Profit Radio Community radio is a type of radio service that offers a third model of radio broadcasting. These types of radio stations broadcast things that are popular in that community, as they have more of a specific target audience. They are privately owned and operated by the communities they broadcast too. Since 2005, 200 non for profit radio stations have been licensed by the UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom. The majority of these radio stations are broadcast on FM, which is typically as a radiated power level of 25 watts. Although in more rural areas there are few that operate on AM.
18. Employment in the Radio Sector Radio is such a busy thriving business, and it has many people working in the industry. Two thirds of these are graduates, and about half are female. This shows that is isn’t essential to have a degree in Media Studies, although if you went for a job that was higher up it would be looked at. Some of these workers are freelance, which means that they are employed on contracts which last less than a year. To work in a radio, a technologically advance world, you will need creative skills and also the ability to think of your own ideas and listen to others. This is key in the media world if you want to succeed. There is a mixture of different jobs available if you want to work in radio, these include; managers, sales executives, reporters, producers, presenters, editors, journalists and assistants. As most of the workforce is based in London, this would be the best place to work. although there are other major places for radio which are in the South East, North West and Scotland. I believe that in the future the jobs available in the Radio industry will be more or less the same as they are now, although there may be more advertising jobs and web design.
