2. PREFACE
Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) is an e-Consortium of Agricultural
Libraries under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research for National Agricultural
Research and Education System (NARES) Libraries. It was established in November
2007. The Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) is facilitating 24x7 online
accesses of select journals in agricultural and allied sciences to all faculties,
researchers and students in NARS through IP based authentication.
CeRA enhances agricultural research, education and extension activities of NARS
institution by providing online access of e-journals, e-books and Agristat database.
It was felt to prepare a manual on CeRA to provide step – by - step information about all
features of consortia to the faculty, students and scholars of NDRI. This manual deals
with step – by- step usage of CeRA.
All faculty and researchers are requested to access this valuable platform for accessing
more than 3000 e-journals, e-books, and agristat.
I hope this manual will be helpful to all the readers and they will get benefited.

Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) is a 24x7 online
accesses facility of select journals in agricultural and allied sciences to all
researchers, teachers, students, policy planners, administrators and
extension specialists. It is an e-Consortium of Agricultural Libraries under
the Indian Council of Agricultural Research for National Agricultural
Research and Education System (NARES) Libraries. CeRA acts as a
catalyst to enhance quality agricultural research, education and
extension activities achieving excellence and setting high
standards in output and service by up scaling the existing R&D
information resource base of ICAR Institutions/State Agricultural
Universities comparable to world’s leading institutions/organizations. The
Consortium subscribesto full-text electronic journals for 161 leading NARS

3. institutions in India including 4-Deemed Universities, 3-ICAR Head
Quarters, 47- ICAR Institutes, 6-National Bureaus, 9-National Research
Centers, 19- Project Directorates, and 13-State Agricultural Universities. In
the field of agriculture CeRA is an useful consortium working as information
hub to provide e-resources such as : online journals, articles, reviews,
abstract and other e-resources on large scale to the end users.
OBJECTIVESOF THE MANUAL
To frame a resource base of ICAR Institutions / State and Central
Agricultural Universities.
To subscribe e-journals and create easy access system for
scientists, faculty, students, research scholars,, policy planners,
administrators and extension specialists.
To provide 24 x 7 on - line access to ICAR institutes, SAUs, CAUs in
NARS .
To access more and more e – journals.
To share the resources.
To overcome the problem of shrinking budgets and simultaneous
exponential rise in journal prices.
