Do you wonder at times where you fit - in this paradox. You each have unique skills and talents that you bring to the table everyday…whether you are aware of it or not. Bring your personality to your webinars….you are the knowledge broker but also an entertainer.
Planning for a successful webinar.
We need to consider our audience: the size of the audience, their potential connectivity issues
Consider which technology to use for the webinar…OSU CarmenConnect is our focus today.
According to a 2009 survey conducted by Osterman Research, the optimal time for Webinar presentation is 60 minutes.
Within that 60 minutes, allow attendees about 15 minutes to log into the webinar, and allow 15-20 minutes for Question and Answers.
Optimal video length for student engagement, Philip Guo 11-13-2013

3 to 6 optimal but no longer than 12 minutes
This is important because of our Optimal Time for webinar:
Webinar 60 minutes optimal no more than 90 minutes
If you record the webinar for later viewing…
Video 3 to 6 minutes optimal no more than 12 minutes
Size of audience, individual, small group and large group

Report my ON24 For Live Webinars, attendee registration starts early and finishes strong: 36% over 7 days; 27% to days; 16% Day before; and 21% the day of. Promoting a webinar more than 7 days before the event can increase audience size 36%
Less words more pictures – show picture and tell story…use photos, graphics, flow charts, stories, metaphors, and analogies…the human brain remembers images longer than words – full slide pic that fill the entire slide and tell short stories to illustrate content
When you list bullet points on a slide, the audience can’t read the bullets and listen to you at the same time because they’re reading the text first.
The brain remembers novelty, contrast, meaning, emotion (the brain ignores anything routine, repetitive, predicable, and just plain boring).
Copyright issues and branding.

Branding website: cfaes.osu.edu/brand and cfaes.osu.edu/commtech
Copyright issues and branding.
*The Block O watermark cannot be included on anything that will be a publication of any kind. Only on digital media. This is a change from examples they had previously posted to the branding guidelines website a few months ago.
*In terms of branding, University Branding decisions trump CommTech decisions. It’s usually less painless to go through University Branding for approval (so as not to end up with regrets and more work later). (Share FCS Marketing Materials example.)
No animations.
*Animations distract participants from the key point you’re trying to make on the slide. Their eyes and now are paying attention to the animation, not to what you are saying.
Divide content into 10 minutes segments.
*Content should be divided into 10 minute segments to give participants a chance to take a break and refocus.
Ganntt Chart
Going to have a “sandlot” moment. We’re going to use a new tool, the whiteboard tool, for all of you to make a Gannt Chart of this webinar so far. Include activities that you remember doing and when you think you did them and also key points along the way that you remember.
Set up whiteboard ahead of time.
Make Gannt chart for webinar that they can compare
* Do we have an example from Stan for this chart?
Layouts menu
Has start up menus
Show a title at the top of layout
Can duplicate a layout and edit or create a new layout
e.g. attendees pod, chat pod, notes pod (maybe for a Welcome and instructions to group as they come into the room)

NICE: can switch between different layouts throughout the meeting
Choose layouts and manage layouts and you can move the layout in the order in the meeting so they can be selected in order that the flow of the meeting
e.g. Introductions layout -- with welcome (Welcome Notes, attendees, chat)
Discussion Layout – to discuss the material (Start my Webcam, Attendees, Discussion Notes, Chat, Poll)
Collaboration Layout – to have people work with the materials (Share-Whiteboard, Files, Chat, Attendees, Notes)
Can rename the layouts and add timeframe so know how long to stay on that layout
You can also add other speakers names to Layout and you can see name in top
Share screen and show how to customize room
Also can create breakout rooms for groups
Share screen and show how to customize and move boxes
This slide breaks the “rules” but is useful.
