  7. 7. Working for someone else is
  8. 8. fundamentally different from working for yourself.
  9. 9. There is an employee mindset
  10. 10. and an entrepreneur mindset
  11. 11. and they are markedly different.
  12. 12. If you have been working for many years
  13. 13. for someone else,
  14. 14. you may not realize t
  15. 15. hat there is a difference in mindset.
  16. 16. The longer you've worked as an employee,
  17. 17. the harder it is to change this mindset
  18. 18. and start thinking like an entrepreneur.
  19. 19. However, the employee mindset may not
  20. 20. serve you well as a business owner.
  21. 21. In fact, it can work against you to guarantee
  22. 22. that your business never reaches fruition.
  23. 23. As an employee, it is easy
  24. 24. to blame others in an organization
  25. 25. for responding too slowly, for missing opportunity
  26. 26. As an entrepreneur, you are solely responsible for all things, good or bad.
  27. 27. Entrepreneurs create something from nothing, with freedom to chart their path.
  28. 28. You are the sole creator of that destiny.
  29. 29. As an employee,
  30. 30. you were likely responsible for delivering tasks
  31. 31. or accomplishing short- term goals,
  32. 32. but you were likely not responsible for the
  33. 33. long term goals of the company
  34. 34. As an entrepreneur, you have to focus on both short term and long term goals and your vision for the company
  35. 35. As an employee, you likely did not make decisions that had the biggest impact
  36. 36. to your company's bottom line.
  37. 37. Also, you likely had a team of other people
  38. 38. you worked with to make decisions.
  39. 39. For the Entrepreneur,
  40. 40. Discomfort is the new reality.
  41. 41. You don't have all the answers,
  42. 42. and you likely need to make quick decisions
  43. 43. with very little input from others.
  44. 44. As an employee,
  45. 45. you had a narrow scope in terms of your job.
  46. 46. Any training you completed likely
  47. 47. was directly related to your role
  48. 48. As an entrepreneur
  49. 49. you have to wear many hats - project manager, sales, finance, marketing, IT, etc.
  50. 50. As an employee,
  51. 51. you toed the line - following orders from above.
  52. 52. As an entrepreneur,
  53. 53. you aren't interested in the status quo.
  54. 54. You always look for ways to improve.
  55. 55. These are some of the key differences between the employer and entrepreneur mindsets
