For decades, running has been by far one of the
most popular forms of exercise. Running can
help you lose weight, enhance your mood and
prevent numerous diseases. Plus, running is an
incredibly versatile form of exercise. No special
equipment is required and people who run
have the freedom of setting their own pace. It’s
also extremely easy in that it requires no special
set of skills in order to reap its benefits.
Running as a form of exercise boasts a
remarkable variety of health benefits. These five
benefits of running barely scratch the surface
when it comes to the incredible ways that this
exercise can change your life.
A few years back, a study
demonstrated the unique ways
that running benefits mental
health. As it turns out, running
has the ability to trigger the
brain’s release of hormones
that calm down stress and
anxiety, alleviate feelings of
depression and even improve
one’s ability to sleep. Studies
show that even thirty minutes
of running each day can
dramatically improve one’s
overall state of mind.

Running benefits your heart in a
variety of ways. For one thing, it
allows you to burn calories that can
lower your weight. By maintaining a
healthy weight, you can avoid
cardiovascular problems that are
associated with obesity.
Additionally, running decreases the
body’s resting heart rate. A study
shows that people who run regularly
have half the chance of developing
cardiovascular disease as those who
do not.

Running benefits your body
immensely by boosting your
lung capacity. Those who have a
lower lung capacity find it
difficult to take deep breaths
and therefore may not receive
adequate oxygen. As oxygen is
necessary for the body’s systems
to function properly, those who
suffer from low lung capacity
are at risk of developing a
variety of health problems.

Despite the misconception that
running damages your knees over
time, this form of exercise actually
benefits your joints and can even
prevent osteoarthritis.
The body’s joints can become
damaged over time as the result of
excess body weight. As it turns out,
running burns a high number of
calories in a short period of time,
shedding excess body weight
effectively. As a result, the joints are
free of the strain of excess body
weight and can function properly
well into old age.

can prevent certain cancers
like breast cancer and colon
cancer.
