Hallmarks of Baroque art
•Exaggerated emotionalism.
•Manipulation of light and dark for theatrical effect (Chiaroscuro)
•A dynamic sense of movement that extends beyond the artwork.
•A heightened sense of realism.
• Iconography was direct, simple, obvious, and theatrical.
• Often to express the triumph of the Catholic Church and the
  absolutist state.

• Appealed to the emotions rather than seeking to please the intellect.

• Churrigueresque* style: as a manner of stucco decoration, marked by
  extreme, expressive and florid decorative detailing, normally found
  above the entrance on the main facade of a building.

• The Churrigueresque style appeals to the proliferative geometry, and
  has a more likely ancestry in the Moorish architecture or Mudéjar
  architecture
