1. This seminar was about how to characterize the function of LPIN1 in adrenaline cortex and determine
how Protein kinase A (PKA) regulates the enzyme diacylglycerol kinase DGK.
Adrenocorticotropinestimulates the secretion of cortisol. Adenylyl cyclase produces cyclic adenosine
monophosphate (cAMP) and therefore, cAMP-dependent protein (PKA) kinase. The protein
Diacylglycerol kinase phosphorylates diacylglyceroland produce phosphatidic acid. This phosphatidic
acid binds to thesteroidogenic factor 1. This binding process produces Sphingosine (SPH) and enhanced
cortisol.Reue’s group found that the cause of fatty liver dystrophic (fld) in mice was mutations in the
gene encoding LPIN1. Mice that are lipodystrophic, can be caused by LPIN1 as a PAP enzyme. This may
contribute to the scientific community by regulate hormones and their function in our body.
