Shift tech use from teacher-centered to student-driven
What percentage of teachers in your building are using technology at each of these levels?
goal for today isn’t to add new tools to your toolbox
goal is to redefine student learning & professional learning
5 min table talk - Choose a different task & brainstorm for each level
Examples of tasks at each level
Focus on learning tasks, not tools
Keep this framework in mind as you learn about new applications for online learning spaces today
Make 1 or 2 statements, then ask participants to share their own swimming analogies. Ask folks to tweet them.
You have to be comfortable wading in the water before you can swim in the deep end
Teachers will drown if they try to go into the deep end too quickly. How can we help teachers wade in the shallow end?
We must help teachers see the purpose of swimming in the deep end before helping them get there.
Some teachers may dive off the diving board while others need swimming lessons and floaties for a while.
All teachers in the deep end need a lifeguard close by. Is that you?
partners brainstorm another professional learning task & take it through the 4 levels
Don’t wear yourself out by constantly treading water in the deep end. Sometimes, you can stand up and breathe. Some technologies can be used to simply help us be more efficient with teaching and administrative tasks. Not every use of technology in our schools has to be redefining learning.
Learning can even happen around the edges of the pool!
When we’re in the pool, students can’t be on the edges cheering us on. They need to be in the pool with us.
