Born (created) for woman Born (created) for man
In this world there are two kinds of human beings:
men and women Can they decide to exchange
positions? the sex that we are given is an absolute
and is not a matter of choice. Man is man absolutely
and woman is woman absolutely.
7. Created for (ontological reciprocity)
Made for (needed, disposable) Created for (necessary)

8. 1994 - YEAR OF THE FAMILY
LETTER TO FAMILIES
FROM POPE JOHN PAUL II
The divine "We" is the eternal pattern of the human
"we", especially of that "we" formed by the man
and the woman created in the divine image and
likeness.
The words of the Book of Genesis contain that truth
about man which is confirmed by the very
experience of humanity. Man is created "from the
very beginning" as male and female: the life of all
humanity —whether of small communities or of
society as a whole—is marked by this primordial
duality. From it there derive the "masculinity" and
the "femininity" of individuals, just as from it every
community draws its own unique richness in the
mutual fulfilment of persons. This is what seems to
be meant by the words of the Book of Genesis:
"Male and female he created them" (Gen 1:27).
"Male and female he created them" (Gen 1:27).

Divine and cosmic dimension of conjugal love
11. 1. Being an expression of God's love.
2. Total (From the whole person to whole person –
embrace the totality of the person spirit and body)
3. Faithful (“I will be your man or your woman in
exclusivity and forever”)
4. Exclusive (only for the spouse)
5. Sexual (different from other forms of love,
paternal, filial, fraternal, it is unique, designed and
destined to unite “two in one flesh”)
6. Close and Intimate (being sexual and
exclusive it becomes close and intimate)
7. Fecund (open to paternity and maternity, the
transmission of life and LINEAGE)
8. Committed (generates unavoidable rights and
duties)
CARACTERISTICS of CONJUGAL LOVE:
12. Once the
husband and
wife marry
under the
absolute power
of true love,
their love
should become
unchanging and
eternal, just as
eternal is the life
they create
through their
children who
are the fruits of
their love.
Ideally,
13. Conjugal love is a
commitment to:
1. Respect man and woman as
complementary representatives of
masculinity and femininity (from
God or nature), incomplete one
without the other, who experience
love and supreme happiness
through their harmonious
relationship.
2. To exalt the sacred dimension of
human sexuality, because of its
power to celebrate eternal love, to
create eternal life and to
perpetuate the eternal lineage.
3. Honor the sexual organs, which
represent our spiritual and
physical center of love,
maintaining sexual purity before
marriage and absolute sexual
fidelity within marriage.
14. Freedom and sexuality inherent to human nature
According to the ideal of love, all love relationships in the animal and plant kingdom are for
reproduction only. Human beings are the sole exception. Only they enjoy freedom in the
conjugal relationship of love. This is humanity's special privilege as the Lord of all Creation.
The human exception. There is freedom in sexual relationship
16. 1. to master love, self-control.
2. Responsibility for an
absolute connection
with one’s spouse.
3. Parents are responsible to guide
their children toward maturity.

17. The union in the act of love should
have a mystical and sacred dimension.

between husband and wife
with God to enjoy the love
that He originally designed.

19. The organ of love belongs to the spouse
Actually the owner of a husband's sexual organ is his wife,
and the owner of a wife's sexual organ is her husband.
This simple truth will never change: The woman is born to love the man.
The man is born to love the woman. It is the law of nature, the truth.

This is the body, a witness to creation as a

as the source from which this same giving
springs Masculinity and femininity—
namely, sex—is the original sign of a
creative donation and an awareness on
the part of man, male-female, of a gift
lived in an original way. Such is the
meaning with which sex enters the
theology of the body.
Action of giving
and receiving
creative donation
The body which expresses
femininity manifests the
reciprocity and communion
of persons. It expresses it
by means of the gift as the
fundamental characteristic
of personal existence.
John Paul II on the nuptial meaning of the body
21. The man said, “This is
now bone of my bones,
And flesh of my flesh;...
For this reason a man
shall leave his father and
his mother, and be joined
to his wife; and they shall
become one flesh.
Gen 2: 23-24
22. The human body is made up of
billions of cells. Each of the two
bodies merge together in a total
ecstasy of joy and radiant
happiness. Physical and spiritual
senses of each one of the spouses
are focused and united in that
moment of intimacy.
23. “Unlike the relationship between parent and
child or between brothers and sisters, the
conjugal relationship is not an absolute one
from the beginning, as it is not bonded through
the blood relation. It involves truly revolutionary
determination and resolution, where a man and
a woman, who have lived under different
environments and circumstances of growing up,
meet with each other and create a new life
together.
Conjugal love becomes more absolute than blood relations
Nonetheless, the conjugal relationship will change into a stronger, more
absolute one than the blood relations, if a couple unites into one heart and one
body through true love. Everlasting and inexhaustible treasures are hidden in
the conjugal relationship. If the bond of marriage is once made centering on
Heaven, it will grow into an absolute relationship that is eternally inseparable.”

26. The consciousness of a separate self
disappears, and all distinction between the
lovers is annulled. The mortal element, the
body, has lost the character of separability, and
a living child, a seed of immortality, of the
eternally self-developing and self-generating
[race], has come into existence. What has been
united [in the child] is not divided again; [in
love and through love] God has acted and
created. Each stage of its development is a
separation, and its aim in each is to regain for
itself the full riches of life [enjoyed by the
parents]. Thus the process is: unity, separated
opposites, reunion. After their union the lovers
separate again, but in the child their union has
become unseparated.

Wallis Simpson, Edward VIII abdicated.
The force of love could be more powerful than the desire for life. Men and women now and in
the past have sacrificed their lives for their love ones. A great number of duels and deaths
occurred in disputes involving a woman's or a man's love.

38. LOVE is all that exists, has always existed, and will always exist ...
"God is the original owner of the
sexual organs”.
Let us go forward … and affirm with your
spouses that your sexual organs are absolute,
unique, unchanging and eternal. Proclaim that
yours is truly your spouse's and what your
spouse has protected so well until now is truly
yours. And please pledge that you will live your
life with gratitude and in eternal service to your
spouse. In such families, God will dwell
eternally and, centering upon them, the world-
level family will begin to multiply…
(Remarks by Rev. Moon at the inauguration of the Federation of Families for World Peace, August 1, 1996)
39. “I wish that you would center on the
absolute sexual organ, unique sexual
organ, unchanging sexual organ and
eternal sexual organ, and use this as your
foundation to pursue God. You should
realize that this foundation should become
the foundation of love, life, lineage and
conscience. We also have to realize that
the Kingdom of God on Earth and in
Heaven will begin on this foundation…”
LOVE is all that exists, has always existed, and will always exist ...
(Remarks by Rev. Moon at the inauguration of the Federation of Families for World Peace, August 1, 1996)
40. With whom will we finally
experience and share the
intimacy of our being day by
day in an eternal forever?
41. Obviously that person will be our husband or wife
and of course that union includes the spirit of
God that will fuse with each couple in the
enjoyment of that marriage and blessed sexual
love. In spite of our love, gratitude and admiration
for Jesus Christ or other extraordinary men and
women, they are not the people with whom,
according to the original purpose of creation, we
are destined to merge and become two in one
flesh. Because God does not have a body and
arms to embrace and just as our mind is invisible
and intangible, both, here and in the Spiritual
World, it will be our husband or wife who will
finally become the face of God and his embraces
and his Love will be the tangible and substantial
expression of God's embrace and love.
With whom will we finally experience and share the
intimacy of our being day by day in an eternal forever?

46. The act of sexual love between a man and a
woman was always supposed to be the most
sacred, pure, sublime and beautiful
experience in our lives. Because this act fell
under Satan's control it often turned into an
obscene or vulgar experience.
Fornication, adultery, prostitution, incest,
abortion, rape, pornography, homosexuality
and all sexual perversions are carried out
through these love organs, tainted human life
in all races, cultures, religions, etc.,
throughout human history. The sexual
organs became the temple of evil and
completely destroyed the heavenly principle.
Through these organs false love, false life
and false lineage were planted.
Dirty jokes and the most obscene and vulgar
language are often used to describe the act
of love and the reproductive organs.
47. The love of our parents is the origin of our
physical and spiritual life and transmits the blood
lineage. Love, life and lineage are connected with
the sexual organs. The linkage of love, life and
lineage is what gives history its continuity,
connecting the past, the present and the future.
That is why the act of love should be the most
precious, beautiful and sacred act of our life. But,
in spite of that, it is very shocking to discover that
constantly throughout human history, the sexual
organs and the act of love have been seen as
something dirty and shameful.
It is also symptomatic that most languages
frequently use the most obscene and vulgar
words to describe the sexual organs and the act
of love.

49. The american anthropologist,
Richard Heinberg observes:
"People of every culture and age have insisted that
evil had a specific cause..., that human nature is not
natural at all because it has been distorted by some
fundamental mistake or failure that has perpetuated
itself from generation to generation.“
(Memories and Visions of Paradise)
50. THE (HIDDEN) FRONT LINE OF THE COSMIC BATTLE
BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL
Since the dawn of history, a key goal of
secular and anti-religious interests, (although
they are often hidden, distorted, disguised
and not spoken of openly), has been to
"liberate" human sexuality from moral codes
of religion and the remorse of our conscience
(although the latter without success).
In fact, SATAN HIMSELF IS THE FATHER OF
THIS MOVEMENT. Satan's fundamental
complaint was that God insisted on imposing
a code on human sexual behavior. The
prohibition of God of the sexual relationship
between angels and humans was
undoubtedly the main point of disagreement -

because our spiritual perception is impaired, we

asked: "Where do God's love and man's

participants, he continued:

"An essential aspect of guarding the heart is
warfare against the passions. By passion is
meant any disordered appetite or longing that
violently takes possession of the soul: anger,
jealousy, gluttony, avarice, lust, pride and the
rest…
"Our aim is not to eliminate the passions but to
redirect their energy. Uncontrolled rage must
be turned into righteous indignation, spiteful
jealousy into zeal for the truth, sexual lust into
an eros that is pure in its fervor.
The passions, then, are to be purified, not
killed; to be educated, not eradicated; to be
used positively, not negatively. To ourselves
and to others we say, not ‘Suppress’, but
'Transfigure.'" -- The Orthodox Way p155 -

56. God created us as His children and to be the lords of
creation. To this end, He gave each of us the highest and
greatest gift-a conscience. This special gift of a conscience
is given to us as a compass to guide us through life in this
earthly world. We can say that our lifespan may be one
hundred years. ...
The most elevated function of the conscience is its role as
our true parent, true teacher and true owner. In other words,
our conscience acts as a true parent, true teacher and true
owner on behalf of God, guiding our lives and educating us
from the time we are born.
Our conscience functions as a guide, keeping watch over
our every action at every moment. It is aware of our every
word, thought and deed even before our parents, our
teachers or God are. God infused into the conscience the
fundamental function of guiding and supervising our lives.

59. As the school of love and seedbed of peace, the family is
indispensable to the functioning of any society. Religious teachings
encourage love in our homes, which is the basis for peaceful and
thriving societies, nations, and the world.
“The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is
entitled to protection by society and the state.”
Paragraph 3, Article 16 - Universal Declaration of Human Rights - 1948
60. "The natural family is a man and woman
bound in a lifelong covenant of marriage
for the purposes of:
the continuation of the human species,
the rearing of children,
the regulation of sexuality,
the provision of mutual support and protection,
the creation of an altruistic domestic economy, and
the maintenance of bonds between the
generations."
FAMILY – DEFINITIONS – NATURAL FAMILY
61. First, the term signifies a natural order to family
structures that is common across cultures, historical, and
overwhelmingly self-evident.
Second, the term signifies a wholly defensible
expression. "Natural" is not "nuclear," which would limit its
scope, nor is it "traditional," which would burden its utility
in public discourse. It is what it is, a totally self-evident
expression.
Third, the term "natural" precludes incompatible
constructs of the family as well as incompatible behaviors
among its members.
Fourth, the "natural family" is a positive expression. It
does not require a discussion of negative incompatibilities
to define itself.
Our use of the term "natural family" is significant in many respects
FAMILY – DEFINITIONS – NATURAL FAMILY
62. VILADRICH: "Marriage and family are formulas that
are found in all cultures of all times and places, and
not only coexisting with other formulas - which is an
indisputable historical fact - but constituting the
final result of the critical distillation of other
formulas and sexual experiments.
Marriage and family - and this is another historical
fact - have not only endured all crises, but have
always ended up being the synthesis of any serious
sexual crisis. And it is highly probable that this old
novelty will be again in the future the oldest sexual
novelty. This destiny is not a chance, but a result of
the persistence of certain essential constants in
humanity"
Marriage and Family exist universally
Dr. Pedro Juan
Viladrich
“Agonía del matrimonio legal” – Pag. 32
63. The family is sovereign. In the history of the elaboration of the concept of
sovereignty, all the classical authors (Bodin, Spinoza, Hobbes, Sieyes, Burke,
Rousseau, Kant ...) soon agreed to conceive it as an absolute and indivisible
power. A sovereign - said Bodin as early as 1576 - ceases to be so if he admits to
another sovereign, for sovereignty is an absolute power and, therefore, its
diversification is not viable. Since this is the conception that the State has of its
sovereignty, - is it not foreseeable the brutality and cunning of its reaction to this
other, in addition, previous sovereign power hold by man and woman, that appear
before the State with the pretension to generate sovereignly, under their noses,
nothing more and nothing less than the first legal bond, the first social institution:
the family founded on marriage? (P J Viladrich)
64. The family is sovereign. The original and eternal love designed
and blessed by God between husband and wife is a sacred and absolute
birthright. The family holds fundamental and intrinsic rights, which originate
from a sovereign inner authority (which are not determined by the State,
neither by any other authority or institution), in fact, the sovereign family is
preceding any State or institution and constitutes the foundation for all
authority. This sovereign authority is the only capable to originate the first of
all social institutions: The family founded on marriage as primordial society
and common patrimony of humanity.
65. The family is sovereign because the original and eternal love
designed and blessed by God between husband and wife is a sacred and
absolute birthright.
The family is an unchanging point of origin, a timeless cornerstone that
cannot be altered even by the father, by brothers and sisters, or by the system
of government of any country. Nothing can alter the sovereignty of the family –
not the world, not heaven and earth, not even God Himself. For this reason,
the concept of revolution will never be needed in the family. No revolution is
necessary since the family is the throne of love. (SMM - 25-85, 1969.9.30)
66. The family is sovereign.Constitutions and laws should
recognize that each person and family cannot delegate or assign any
power to their government or other authorities except that which
they have lawful right to exercise themselves.
Any immoral conduct or social and economic illegal activity which is
forbidden to a person cannot be allowed to a group, government or
state.
67. Love, life, freedom of conscience, responsibility,
property among many other inalienable rights and
duties, do not exist because men had invented
them, or because they made laws about them.
On the contrary, it was the fact that love, life,
freedom of conscience, responsibility and
property existed before hand that caused people
the need to established laws for their protection
in the first place.
The unalienable rights of each person and family are most likely to be protected
and preserved (now and in the future) if the principles of Justice and natural law
are set forth in a written Constitution. The sovereign will of our families
expressed in a “Constitution" should be the more effective protection against
the abuse of power, and the frailties of governing leaders. We should be
governed by law and by our consciences and not by the whims of men.
The sovereign authority of each person and family
70. That marriage is from heaven and the most
important project of our life.
Sure, it is important to honor our parents, but
eventually they will fade away from our life. Sure, it is
very important that we take care of our children the
best way we can, but... eventually they will fade away
from our life. But our marriage, our marital state, is all
important. It will stay with us to eternity. Thus, the
most important project is to be led to that marital

(1688 - 1772)
Emanuel Swedenborg - 18th century Swedish scientist,
philosopher and mystic (Seer and Revelator), which
explored the spiritual world for nearly 30 years and wrote
(in Latin) extensible about his experiences in that realm,
made two important contributions in regard to marriage:

72. They did this and said, "There are three basic facts
about hell, but they are just the opposite of the facts
about heaven. The basic facts of hell are three loves --
the love of ruling due to self-love, the love of having
what belongs to others due to love of the world, and the
love of fornication."
"The basic facts of heaven are the three loves opposite
to these -- the love of ruling due to a love of being
useful, the love of having worldly goods due to a love
of putting them to good use, and real married love"
Once I was thinking about heaven and hell, and I began to want a basic
knowledge of what they are both like, …I went to the head teachers there
and asked if they knew the general facts about heaven and hell…

73. "There are (three universals of heaven and) three universals of hell,
but the universals of hell are diametrically opposed to the
universals of heaven.
The universals of hell are the following three loves: The love of
ruling from the love of self, the love of possessing the goods of
others from the love of the world, and scortatory love.
The universals of heaven are the three opposite loves: The love of
ruling from the love of use, the love of possessing the goods of the
world from the love of performing uses by their means, and love
truly conjugial."

desire a universal knowledge of the state of each, … I asked them if they
knew the universals respecting heaven and hell… they said:

74. "In the world we came from we have heard that
there are no weddings in heaven because the
people are angels. Then isn't there sexual
love?”
"Your sexual love isn't found there," the angelic
spirits answered, "but an angelic sexual love
that is chaste, without any enticement of lust.”
(…)
"If you asked them what real married love is, I
know what the answer would be: that it isn't a
love for the other sex but a love for ONE
member of the other sex,
“… three newcomers asked the two angelic spirits about heaven, and
because two of the three newcomers were adolescents and a spark of
sexual eagerness glittered from their eyes, … the newcomers spoke.

75. which happens only one way -- when the Lord
arranges for a young man to notice a young
woman and the woman the man, and they both
feel marriage take fire in their hearts, and they
can tell that she is his and he is hers. For love
meets love and makes itself known and joins
both souls together at once, and then their
minds join, and from there it goes into their
breasts, and farther after their wedding, and this
is how it becomes a complete love. It joins them
together more every day, to the point where they
are not two any more, but just like one. I also
know that they will swear that they know of no
other sexual love. In fact, they say, 'How can
there be sexual love without its being so
responsive and mutual that it aims at an eternal
union, which is that two become one flesh?‘”

76. The angelic spirits added to this. "In
heaven they absolutely do not know
what fornication is, nor that it exists, nor
that it can exist. An angel's whole body
is cold to unchaste or extramarital love,
and, vice versa, his whole body gets
warm from chaste or married love.
Among men, every cord goes slack at
the sight of a prostitute, and tunes up at
the sight of their wives."

77. I looked closely at the husband and the wife, one at a
time, and I noticed in their faces a sort of unity of their
souls. I said, "You two are one!"
"We are one," the man replied. "Her life is in me and
mine is in her. We are two bodies but one soul. The
union between us is like the two tents in your chest
called heart and lungs. She's my heart, and I'm her
lungs. But here we mean love when we say 'heart' and
wisdom when we say 'lungs,' so she is love of my
wisdom and I'm the wisdom of her love. Because of
this her love from outside veils my wisdom, and my
wisdom from inside is in her love. This is why you can
see the unity of our souls, as you said, in our faces.”
Then I asked, "If you have this kind of unity, can you
look at a woman other than your own?”
Contributions to Marriage from Swedenborg's writings
78. He said, "I can. But my wife is united with my
soul, so we look together, and not a shred of
sensuality can enter. For when I look at other
wives I look at them through my wife, who is the
only one I love. And my wife can tell all my
inclinations, so she sets my thinking straight
and weeds out everything discordant, and at the
same time she puts in a coldness and horror
toward anything unchaste. So for us here it is
just as impossible to look at a friend's wife
lustfully as it is to look at the light of our heaven
from the gloom of the underworld. For this
reason we have no notion of the attraction of
lust, let alone any spoken words for it." He
couldn't say "fornication." The chastity of their
heaven prevented it.

79. “Unlike the relationship between parent and
child or between brothers and sisters, the
conjugal relationship is not an absolute one
from the beginning, as it is not bonded through
the blood relation. It involves truly revolutionary
determination and resolution, where a man and
a woman, who have lived under different
environments and circumstances of growing up,
meet with each other and create a new life
together.
Conjugal love becomes more absolute than blood relations
Nonetheless, the conjugal relationship will change into a stronger, more
absolute one than the blood relations, if a couple unites into one heart and one
body through true love. Everlasting and inexhaustible treasures are hidden in
the conjugal relationship. If the bond of marriage is once made centering on
Heaven, it will grow into an absolute relationship that is eternally inseparable.”

men and women, I recommend analyzing the
research of Dr. David Page, professor of biology
at MIT, see this conference at TED:
Why Sex Really Matters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQcgD5DpVlQ
In it, Dr. Page highlights this essential aspect:
DIFFERENCES AND COMPLEMENTARITY BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
Dr. David Page
84. “… it is been said many times, that our genomes
are all 99.9% identical, from one person to the
next. This idea that we're 99.9% identical has
gained great traction and for a number of
reasons -It's very appealing to say that we are all
99.9% identical - It's so appealing that this idea
was seized upon by President Bill Clinton in his
2000 State of the Union address when he stated
that, "This fall, at the White House... we had a
distinguished scientist visiting, an expert in this
work on the human genome, and he said that we
are all, regardless of race, genetically 99.9% the
same."Dr. David Page
DIFFERENCES AND COMPLEMENTARITY BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
85. Wow -- it turns out that this idea is even correct
as long as, the two individuals being compared
are both men. It's also correct, if the two
individuals being compared are both women.
However, if you compare the genome of a man
with the genome of a woman, you'll find that they
are actually only 98.5% identical. In other words,
the genetic difference between a man and a
woman is 15 times the genetic difference
between two men or between two women.
Dr. David Page
DIFFERENCES AND COMPLEMENTARITY BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
86. Let us consider, for example, the case of Bill and Hillary - So, it turns out
that Bill is as genetically similar to Hillary, as he is to a male chimpanzee.
DIFFERENCES AND COMPLEMENTARITY BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
87. By analyzing the human genome one can better understand this enormous
differentiation between man and woman. It is because of these wonderful
differences in nature and design that we are predisposed to be and to
function in complementarity, thus constituting the basis of conjugality,
marriage and family
Chromosome XY = Male
Chromosome XX = Female
DIFFERENCES AND COMPLEMENTARITY BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
88. DIFFERENCES AND COMPLEMENTARITY BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
To divide the human race into heterosexuals & homosexuals is a false
dichotomy - Human sexuality is binary by purpose and design: men and
women
Chromosome XY = Male -- Chromosome XX = Female
“What is real, natural, and
biologically and scientifically true,
is that there are only two sexes:
male and female. They are
determined specifically in genetic,
chromosomal, chromatin,
gonadal, hormonal, anatomical
and physiological forms."

89. Very few exceptions - "Gender Incongruity"
There are few exceptions of a very low percentage, such as
the "Harry Benjamin Syndrome" (affecting 1 in 100,000 men
and 1 in 30,000 women), which is precisely the case of
Charlotte Goiar who was born with that "congenital
dysphoria" recognized as “Gender Incongruity"and was the
first person in Spain with a sex change operation, pay by
the Social Security following the decision of the Supreme
Court of Justice.
Charlotte Goiar
Then there are cases of "monosomy" (only one X chromosome, "Turner Syndrome", affecting 1
in 25000. They are women but with reproductive dysfunctions).
There is also the case of three "trisomies":
"XXY" - Klinefelter syndrome (they have male traits and 50% spontaneously miscarriages occur
in 1 out of 700);
"XYY" - (affects 1 in 1000, "supermale" are males and have reproductive difficulties;
"XXX" - (affects 1 in 1200, are women and have reproductive difficulties)
90. God (or nature)
designed us this way
Cromosoma XY = Hombre
Cromosoma XX = Mujer
... man and woman, there
is nothing else in the
middle ...

(1856-1939)
Dr. Joseph D. Unwin
British ethnologist and social anthropologist at Oxford
University and Cambridge University, Joseph Daniel Unwin MC (1895 -
1936) conducted a massive study of 6 major civilizations and 80 lesser
societies covering 5,000 years of history. He set out his study
expecting to find evidence supporting Sigmund Freud’s theory that
civilizations are essentially neurotic and destroy themselves by
restricting sex too much. But to Unwin’s surprise, all the evidence he
discovered pointed exactly to opposite conclusions.
In his exhaustive examination of sexual behavior and their
affect upon society, Unwin observed that monogamous
cultures prosper and those disinclined to restrain sex to
monogamous marriage remain primitive or, if once
successful, they decline.

98. Dr. Joseph Daniel Unwin
“Thousands of years and thousands of miles separate the
events; and there is no apparent connection between
them. In human records, there is no case of an absolutely
monogamous society failing to display great [cultural]
energy. I do not know of a case on which great energy has
been displayed by a society that has not been absolutely
monogamous…”
“Sexual Regulations and Cultural Behavior” by Joseph Daniel Unwin, Ph.D.,
Address given March 27, 1935, to the Medical Section of the British Psychological Society
Family breakdown and Civilization decline
“The whole of human history does not contain a single
instance of a group becoming civilized unless it has been
absolutely monogamous, nor is there any example of a
group retaining its culture after it has adopted less
rigorous customs.”
(Unwin, J. D. (1927). "Monogamy as a Condition of Social
Energy,” The Hibbert Journal, Vol. XXV, p. 662.)
99. “Unwin's conclusions, which are based upon an
enormous wealth of carefully sifted evidence, may be summed
up as follows. All human societies are in one or another of six
cultural conditions: zoistic, manistic, deistic, rationalistic,
expansive, productive. Of these societies the zoistic displays
the least amount of mental and social energy, the productive
the most. Investigation shows that the societies
exhibiting the least amount of energy are those
where pre-nuptial continence is not imposed and
where the opportunities for sexual indulgence after
marriage are greatest. The cultural condition of a
society rises in exact proportion as it imposes pre-
nuptial and post-nuptial restraints upon sexual
opportunity.”

100. “Absolute monogamy” generates
“social energy”
What is surprising and worrying, Unwin says:
… I know of no exceptions to these rules!!!
Societies with high levels of “social energy” progress
in every category of creative growth. This would be
expressed in all areas of culture such as economics,
science, justice, education, arts, and so on…
When the levels of what he called “absolute monogamy” were compromised
by the increase pre-nuptial (premarital) and post-nuptial (extramarital)
continence, such society decline in the span of three generations

103. The American Sex Revolution (Boston: Porter Sargent Publishers, 1956)
Following J. D. Unwin's Sex and
Culture, Sorokin asserts that
societies tend to blossom, be
creative, and grow when the sexual
mores favor exclusivity, monogamy,
fidelity, responsibility, and family
stability. Conversely, when mores
encourage permissiveness, sexual
exploration, serial monogamy, easy
divorce, and brief and changeable
family relationships (particularly with
children), then societies become
unstable and alienating, and they
decline.

"During the first stage of the Revolution, its
leaders deliberately attempted to destroy
marriage and the family. Free love was glorified
by the official 'glass of water' theory. If a person is
thirsty, so went the Party line, it is immaterial
what glass he uses when satisfying his thirst; it is
equally unimportant how he satisfies his sex
hunger. The legal distinction between marriage
and casual sexual intercourse was abolished.
Family breakdown and Civilization decline
Pitirim Sorokin wrote of his own country's revolution:
The Communist law spoke only of contracts between males and females for
the satisfaction of their desires either for an indefinite or a definite period, a
year, a month, a week, or even for a single night. One could marry and
divorce as many times as desired. Husband and wife could obtain a divorce
without the other being notified. It was not even necessary that marriage be
registered. Bigamy and even polygamy were permissible under the new
provisions... Premarital relations were praised and extramarital relations
were considered normal.
106. Dr. Sorokin, Pitirim
Within a few years, hordes of wild, homeless
children became a menace to the Soviet Union.
Millions of lives, especially of young girls, were
wrecked; divorces sky-rocketed, as did abortions.
The hatreds and conflicts among polygamous and
polyandrous mates rapidly mounted--and so did
psychoneurosis.
The results were so appalling that the government
was forced to reverse its policy. The propaganda of
the 'glass of water' theory was declared to be
counter-revolutionary, and its place was taken by
official glorification of premarital chastity and of the
sanctity of marriage...
Considering that the whole cycle occurred under a
single regime, the experiment is highly informative.
It clearly shows the destructive consequences of
unlimited sexual freedom."

Harvard sociologist Dr. Pitirim
Sorokin, analyzing studies of cultures
spanning several thousand years on
several continents, found that virtually
all political revolutions that brought
about societal collapse were preceded
by a sexual revolution in which
marriage and family were devalued
109. Family breakdown and Civilization decline
1. The breakdown of marriage and rise of divorce.
2. The loss of the traditional meaning of the marriage ceremony.
3. The rise of Feminism.
4. Increased public disrespect for parents and authority in general.
5. Acceleration of juvenile delinquency, promiscuity and rebellion.
6. Refusal of people with traditional marriages to accept their family
responsibilities.
7. A growing desire for and acceptance of adultery.
8. Increasing interest in and spread of sexual perversions
(homosexuality) and sex-related crimes.
In 1947, Harvard sociologist Dr. Carle Zimmerman wrote
“Family and Civilization.” He studied the decline of
several civilizations and empires, discovering eight
patterns of domestic behavior that signaled the decline of
a civilization:

“When the number of single parent families
reaches about 30%, the community begins
to break down, and the rate of crime begins

jeopardizes the development of children...
whenever there is too high a concentration
of broken families in any community, that
community will disintegrate.

“The professional literature of criminology is
surprisingly consistent on the real root causes of

community stability. The sequence has its deepest
roots in the absence of stable marriage.”
