1. March 2014 Newsletter
As the year is rolling right along we enter a new month that I hope will bring some warmer weather so we can go outside once again with
the children. We have set up a closed group for KELC parents on Facebook to connect with each other. If you have not been added to the
group, please let me know so we can add you right away.
As we anticipate our visit for our renewal accreditation from NAEYC and pursue our fifth star, here are some helpful websites to keep
you informed along the way:
• NAEYC renewal process for 2014 – visit NAEYC’s family website at http://families.naeyc.org/
• Ohio has a new website – www.earlychildhoodohio.org - this website has information about all state happenings and SUTQ.
Have a great month! ~ Jeni Hoover

A Note from KaO:
To the families who trust the care of their
children to Kendal…
Please consider if the “elders” you know and
love might also benefit from our compassionate
care---- We currently have open private rooms
in our Nursing and Assisted Living wings and
we’d be delighted if you’d help “get the word
out” about this wonderful opportunity!
For more information, contact Lorrie Chmura,
Kendal @ Oberlin at 440-935-0574.
Below, Dan Reiber came to visit us in the
classroom and danced with the children. We’ve
missed Dan and were glad to have him back in the
classroom to move and dance with.
Stop by our Intergen board around the corner
from Giraffes’ room. We have some great
pictures of Japanese cherry blossoms that the
children painted with our Grandfriends.
2. From Your Child’s Teacher:
March is here! We want to start by giving a BIG thank you to everyone that donated shoes for families in Spain! We had 32
pairs of shoes donated! Thank you! We have finished our clothing study and started our study on boxes. The children seem
very excited. When coming in the room you can see how boxes have taken over! We made dramatic play into a post office
using a box as the big blue mailbox you would see at the post office. The children really love this space. They are writing
letters to everyone in their families. We also have a big tunnel in the music area made from a box. The children are having a
blast crawling through that and playing games like follow-the-leader through it.
Our February ELI trip was super fun! The children got to learn all about their organs that are inside their bodies. They got to
look at Stuffie’s parts and put them back into his body. They loved being a doctor. Our next ELI trip is not until April 2nd.
We are still looking for parents to volunteer to drive their children to the April 30 trip to Karamu House. Please let us know as
soon as possible if you could help out. The children always love these performances and we would hate to have to miss it.
Have a great month!
Your KELC Teaching Team,
Sara, Karen, Jenn, and Julie
