18. About the presenter
I began my career as a software support specialist after receiving my B.S. in Business Administration from the
University of Southern Indiana. A few years into this career I chose to become a stay at home mom (1998). In
2006 I returned to school to become an elementary teacher, completing the program in December 2007. In
August 2008 I began teaching technology at Holy Redeemer School in Evansville, IN. I was also the technology
coordinator, troubleshooting hardware/software issues and providing professional development/advice on
technology integration. I also returned to school in the Fall of 2008 to finish my Master’s in Elementary
Education – focusing my research on educational technology. I graduated in December 2011 from the
University of Southern Indiana.
In June 2010 I began my two-year term as the Middle School Representative for ISTE SIGCT (International
Society of Technology Educators, Special Interest Group of Computing Teachers). Near the end of my term I
stepped into the role as Professional Development Chair with SIGMS (Special Interest Group for Media
Specialists). I will hold this office until 2014.
I am currently an eLearning Coach for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. In this role I provide
technology professional development/assistance on a daily basis to teachers at five schools within the
corporation. My goal is to continue inspiring educators and obtain my EdD in Technology Education.

Good morning and welcome to The Ins & Outs of Web 2.0. My name is Jenifer Gossman. I am an eLearning coach for the EVSC (Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation). You might wonder why I am presenting at INPEC since I work in the public schools. This is a new position for me. I worked at Holy Redeemer in Evansville until August of this year. I also have three children that attend schools in the Evansville Dioceses.
You will be introduced to many different tools during this presentation. Remember, it is only an introduction. All of the tools I will discuss could take up 45 minutes each to introduce and learn. If you remember anything from this presentation I hope it is this – just take one tool introduced and learn it then implement it in the classroom. It is overwhelming to attempt to learn every single tool there is so just pick one thing that really sparks in your mind and run with it. After you feel you have mastered that – then move to another tool.
You might wonder where “web 1.0” disappeared to – there wasn’t really a web 1.0 it was just the web. Originally the web was constructed as a way to inform people. Web 2.0 has shifted the way society thinks/views the web and communication. Tools/apps have been developed to allow people to work together remotely. The original web was static – meaning website were created to showcase products and knowledge. We have now moved into a more interactive way of thinking. Websites are much easier to design and share. Documents can be shared instantaneously.
Slideshare: upload PP and share via email or embed into website
SlideRocket: upload PP OR create a new presentation, share via email or embed
Slide Shark: app for iPad/iPhone – upload a previously created PP and share it
Prezi: another online PP transmitting program, you can create it from scratch or upload your PP into Prezi.
Google Presentation: available with the Google Apps/Docs, again you can create or upload a PP
Glogster – digial poster making, fun for the students, paper posters are becoming a thing of the past, now students can create their posters digitally and you can share on your website, email or your Learning management system
Storybird – using images from their gallery to create your own online story book
Animoto – take digital images, add music (from their gallery), your text and tell a digital story (example for students – create an All About Me)
Voice Thread – digital images, choose from voice or text, collaborate, etc
Blabberize – just a fun, goofy tool
Little Bird Tales: create an online book with your students’ drawn artwork or online created artwork and their voices (available as iPad app)
Skype offers a program called Skype in the classroom. Many good opportunities to Skype with authors and other classrooms all over the world.
Facebook – make sure to avoid labeling programs like this as a no go with students, they are and will be visiting these types of sites – our role as an educator is to reinforce good digital citizenship
Pinterest – great tool to find all kinds of information (also a mobile bookmarking tool)
Twitter – a great way to expand your PLN (a good 45 minute discussion can spin off just on Twitter and your PLN)
My Big Campus and Edmodo– Learning Management System – resembles a facebook platform type product– free, allows for a more digitalized classroom
Kidblog, Edublog and Wordpress are all FREE blogging sites. This helps promote writing and collaboration in the classroom
Wordle & Tagxedo are what we call word cloud creators – students can take a topic/word and come up with numerous words that they think of when thinking of a word, topic, etc
Evernote, Google Apps and Dropbox – online storage for files – able to share
With Google you can not only store but create, collaborate and share
Diigo, Symbaloo and LiveBinders are all places to share links/favorites
Diigo – you can setup with your classroom and actually highlight specific information to share with classes
LiveBinders – like having an online 3-ring binder
