Digipak analysis
1. Digipak analysis
Bullet in a Bible
This is the digi pack that goes with the album bullet in a bible, which was
part of green day’s American Idiot tour. The colour of this is very
aggressive, in your face and exciting; the use of the fire and the red and
black artificial lighting makes the audience interested and can fuel the
emotion for the album. This is continued by the typography of the writing
on both of the CD’s is in bold, white, block writing as if it’s more of a
statement than a name, that it may have an underlining message within
the initial cover. This is very common in the punk rock genre and it
usually goes against authority figures. The “uses and gratifications” is
used to give the audience the emotional release with an explosive energy,
which is what the audience wants. That is shown even in the digipak. The
fact that the band is shown playing live in both the middle and left hand
side is again one of the main conventions in punk rock and its with the
DIY theme but in a bigger scale. But in term of having a message it could
mean that they are going to stand up and shout what they have to say and
could be seen as questioning the authority. The framing of the left hand
side image shows a low angle shot of the bassist looking beyond what is
seen in the composition of the image. This could be seen as he is either
looking into his crowd or towards a hidden theme of rebellion as if to
communicate his message to the masses. Through out the composition of
the images they hold their ideology close and abrupt, which holds the
Punk rock concepts in the forefront. Although it is not shown, the digipak
fits in perfectly with the other products that they produced like the live
performance DVD. The framing of a medium shot on the right hand side,
allows the audience to see both emotion on the bands faces but also their
body language, which is in contrast to the rest of the digipak. This is
because in this image it shows the full band looking less aggressive as the
other images, but on the other hand, more focused on what could possible
their messages, which they want to communicate to their audience.
