Exploration Narrative Essay
The testimonies written in both early exploration narratives and seventeenth century Puritan texts
described how a particular explorer viewed the new land of America. Each of these writings had
their own deception about the significance of America, both as a physical place and also as an ideal.
Christopher Columbus wrote several exploration narratives during his journeys to and from the new
land. He offered his own personal definitions and arguments about what he saw and thought about
his new discoveries. In the text "Letter to Luis de Santangel", Columbus writes about his crowning
achievement, the discovery of new world. I believe that this text helps convey a specific definition of
America. Columbus portrayed America as being...show more content...
Another passage in this text which shows the idea of America as paradise is "In it there are many
harbors on the coast of the sea, beyond comparison with others which I know in Christendom, and
many rivers, good and large, which is marvelous." This excerpt from Columbus about the shore of
the new world describes how the inlets of the coast make for great harbors. This was an
extremely important detail for explorers during that time in history. Sea ports and inlets allowed
explorers and the people of the land trade and travel with ease. Columbus knew that harbors were
a very significant aspect of land as a territory and as a central reason why an area should be
described as marvelous. Another quote from Columbus' letter that is significant is "All are most
beautiful, of a thousand shapes, and they are accessible and filled with trees of a thousand kinds
and tall, and they seem to touch the sky." This quote describes the mountain ranges which
Columbus discovered. He wrote that the curves of the range are beautiful and that they are filled
with life. The next line from Columbus tells of the significance of the mountains being
overwhelmed with trees. "And I am told that they never lose their foliage, as I can understand, for I
saw them as green and as lovely as they are in Spain in May, and some of them were flowering, some
bearing fruit, and some in another stage, according to their nature." This passage compares the

Exploratory Essay How we are viewed to the outside world plays a part in who we we are as
individuals, it becomes apart of our identity. No matter how much we try to deny it, how others
view us impact how we view ourselves. To the outside world I am just viewed as a Caucasian
female, but in reality I am a Mexican American. Throughout the years I have just started to
identify as being Caucasian because that is just what everyone assumes, now my case is mild. It
has not deeply affected who I am as a person, but for other people they are not so lucky. Being in
America we are shoved in stereotypes, there is no uniqueness you are viewed as either 'good white
folk', hoodlums, or immigrants. Now imagine being viewed as the latter, your 'race' forces you into
the tight space of discrimination. You are now identified as being a hoodlum, that always seems to

Your identity has to do with how you view yourself, and incarceration can be a bigger factor in
throwing off your own identity. Prisons were originally created to allow the inmate to self reflect on
how they were in the wrong. This seclusion is meant for them to see how unworthy they are; they
are inferior to the outside world. The Auburn Prison Experiment only made matters worse, the
inmates were even identified by what crime they committed. (Mauer) Prisons took away their
identity, they were viewed as the lesser. Now, in modern day the punishments are not as strict, but
they still leave their scars on the individual. Incarceration rates have started to lower in the 20th
century, which would cause many to believe that we are fixing this wrong stereotype but instead we
have moved to other forms of punishments. The War on Drugs, which developed in the 1960's,
continued to oppress minorities, and shape their own views on their personal identities. (DuVernay)

My exploratory essay provided my proposal writing with the research that I will need in order to
write final argument. The research that I did for the exploratory essay helped with writing the
hypothesis for the proposal, which will then serve as the thesis in the final argument. My proposal
brings to light the different reasons that child labor is prevalent in businesses throughout the world.
It focuses on uncovering the reasons that child labor is considered to be a significant problem. It
also focuses on if child labor should even be considered a problem. Adequate resources are
demonstrated through the scholarly articles that I provided in my literature review. The audience
that my proposal is written for is my peers, professor, child labor

Methods and Designs
Many of the research methods for which the research we have reviewed is classified as either
exploratory or constructive. Rape culture, victim blaming, and rape myths encompass more gray
areas (uncertainties) than mere black (wrong) and white (right) understandings. As few of the studies
specifically sought to gain insight in what is considered consent, therefore they exploratory research
wanting to purely define and identify the miscommunication and mixed opinions of interpretations
of consent, as they consider this to be a root to the problem of rape (16p.907)(8p.470)(19p.518). A
couple other studies we found went a different route and chose to test theories they had relating to
rape and then went on to propose solutions...show more content...
A fair share of qualitative and quantitative research was conducted in an attempt to adequately
address the specific questions that were being asked. All of the research we reviewed used
primary data and chose not to utilize secondary data to conduct their experiments, however,
several of the studies references secondary data sources when speaking of historical backgrounds
of rape and in their discussions. The methods our group has chosen to pay particular interest to are
those that were used to gather data from participants at college campuses, as this is the population
we wish to further explore. Due to women of college age being at an increased risk for sexual
violence, several of the studies we found pursued out this population as well. A study conducted at
James Madison University gathered their findings from a participant pool at their university using
the Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale, the Modern and Old–Fashion Sexism Scale, and rape
scenarios and questions in which they evaluating participants identification with either the victim or
the assailant (12p.242) This study was not alone in using the Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale
as measure. In fact, of the research reviewed seven other studies utilized the scale in addition to the

Exploratory Review Essay
This exploratory study specifically aimed to find out the the developmental experience between
Indian adolescent daughters of institutionalised and non–institutionalised schizophrenic mothers. The
developmental experience explained using Robert Havighurst's Developmental Task theory. In
particular, this study explored the challenges, promoting factors and coping strategies involve in the
developmental experience of the adolescent daughters'. The participants of the study consisted of
twenty adolescent girls between the age range of twelve and nineteen, whose mothers having
schizophrenia. The researcher collected data residing different districts of Kerala during the period
of five months. Data were gathered from various sources such as interview of the participants and
their family members, schools, Girls homes, rehabilitation...show more content...
They had to face challenges in all eight developmental tasks including peer relationship, feminine
role, physical development, preparation of marriage life, future career decision, emotional
independence, socially responsible behavior and values and ethical system. Despite the negative
experiences, some of the participants perceived some positive factors to handle the challenges and
promote their everyday life effectively due to the support and care they received from other sources.
They adopted some strategies to cope with the difficulties. It might affected sometimes positively
and sometimes negatively. The primary goal in choosing this topic was to give voice to the
challenging experiences of adolescent daughters' and to learn from them what is required to
overcome the significant challenge of being the daughter of a mother with schizophrenia. A
qualitative mode of enquiry was best suited for the multidimensional and idiosyncratic biographical
data in which adolescent girls could describe their inner thoughts, feelings, dreams and emotional
responses to the chaotic family

Exploratory Observation
The goal of this exploratory research was to uncover students' idea of productivity. I wanted to have
a better understanding of what my students thought was a good use or a bad use of their time. To
better understand my students, I held discussions, administered surveys, conducted interviews, and
recorded personal observations. Both Lancaster (2009) and Betz & Kayser (2017) conducted
research that mainly looked at students' opinions on their day–to–day school lives. Betz and Kayser's
(2017) research emphasized the lack of children input in a research setting and how important it is
to gain their perspective. However, collecting the children's perspective is not to then compare it
with the responses of adults; it is solely to have the perspective

Individual Exploratory Project
While taking this course, I realized that I enjoy researching for what I am writing about, but I have
a difficult time putting my responses into words. I also learned I over–summarize everything the
articles that I am reading and responding to, but I tried to combat this by explaining more in–depth.
However, by doing the assignments in smaller parts, compared to only doing a draft and then a final
paper, I found it easier to elaborate on the topics in my writing. I also learned the importance of
revising papers, especially peer revisions because other people are able to catch mistakes you might
miss or help you better explain an idea if they don't understand, something I definitely need and
utilized throughout this course.
The most rewarding assignment from this class for me was the Individual Exploratory Project. This
assignment allowed me to use the tools I learned from assignments before, such as adding voice and
personality from the memoir and efficient researching from the rhetorical analysis. I really enjoyed
this assignment because it was not written as a typical essay and allowed me to research each
question I had as I went through my writing. I enjoyed this assignment because it also taught me
that writing is an endless process of ideas and questions. It also helped me to continue developing
skills for effectively searching for articles and responding to them....show more content...
Through the assignments from this course, I have gotten better at forming opinions and also finding
the best way to organize them in my writing. To continue becoming a better writer in these aspects, I
will continue to research topics I am interested in, and from that, develop stronger opinions and
responses. Another important factor to being organized and focused is expanding my vocabulary so
my writing will have be concise and

Writing An Exemplary Essay
1. Which parts of your essay do you feel most closely meet the expectations for exemplary writing
as described in the essay rubric and why?
I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing
paragraphs. My focus, or thesis, most closely meet the expectations because it offers significant
insight that is precise and creatively stated. It also addresses the content requirements and is fully
supported throughout the essay. I like the wording I used for the thesis, and to me it's inspirational.
Secondly, I think that certain parts of my closing are strong, particularly the lessons in perseverance
that I learned from Seth. My grammar and mechanics have fulfilled the definition of exemplary in
the essay rubric as well.
2. Which parts of your essay could use improvement, and why?
While there are many parts of my essay that could use improvement, I am only going to focus on a
couple. In paragraph four it feels as though I am rambling a bit about the details of the Domino
Project story. I do think that how the project played out is important, I just...show more content...
Specifically, when moving from paragraph five to paragraph six, besides using the word

just threw it in there. Should I take it out completely or rewrite it? I don't like how the last two
sentences of my essay flow, although I really like the wording I used. How can I mix or add to
these ideas to create more flow for the ending? Another thing I can improve upon is my style or
voice. Sometimes I can sound a little sterile. How can I show more easygoing flow while retaining
the professional feel of the essay? The audience I chose is future employers so I want to sound
intelligent but not

the correlation between spiritual development and cultural reentry adjustment in a group of

adaptation and transition scales. In this study Kimber discovered a substantial connection between
the Reentry Distress Scale and the Spiritual Assessment Inventory (SAI) Disappointment and

For an actor or actress to expect to be rewarded with work, he or she must be on the hunt for
auditions. Some of the best places to search for these potential jobs, are the theatre's around the
location of the actor or actress. Although auditions aren't easy to come across, are essentially the
acting equivalent of job interviews. Anything an actor or actress can use to gain experience in the
field of acting is worth it in the long run, because the experience an actor or actress has the more
likely he or she will increase their skills. Besides being able to preform the monologue or script
given at an audition, there are other requirements that must be prepared prior to attending the
audition. The actor or actress must prepare an accurate resume,

Research Design/Approach/Method The research design was clearly identified as "a cross–sectional
descriptive exploratory" study (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The design chosen for this study was
appropriate but did employ the limitation that the results between each year of students could not be
compared within the program. The independent variables were identified as the following:
"demographic data (age, relationship status, year in program) [and] quality of life indicators
(satisfaction with sleep and leisure activities)" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The dependent
variables for the study were the depression, stress, and anxiety levels experienced by the students
(Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). Chernomas & Shapiro (2016) acknowledged that no...show more

Chernomas & Shapiro (2016) state that the Cronbach's alphas for this study were 0.97 for depression
and on non–clinical studies the alphas are 0.91. The sample size for this study was on the larger
size; "437 useable surveys" were collected (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016) which provides a more
clarity on how depression affects nursing students rather than if the sample size was smaller.
Research assistants were hired to interpret the levels of depression the nursing students were
experiencing by entering the data into the "SPSS version 18 software program" (Chernomas &
Shapiro, 2016). By using the software program, the sample mean from this study was compared
with "means in a normative sample" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). As stated earlier, researchers
were not a part of the recruitment, data collection, or distribution of incentives to allow for
"anonymous data aggregation" (Chernomas & Shapiro,

For this project, we used exploratory research to conduct our analysis on healthy eating. Due to the
little knowledge we had regarding healthy eating, we needed to get information from the general
public regarding their opinions toward healthy and unhealthy food. Our goal was to find a potential
relationship between the cupcakes and the chicken and spinach sandwich. By finding a potential
relationship, this could be used for further research experiments regarding the opinions towards
healthy and unhealthy foods. We used mainly qualitative research questions to conduct our survey,
while having a few quantitative research questions to help compliment the data. Using qualitative
research questions was extremely beneficial to our research study because it...show more content...
We decided to use the descriptive text questions because it allowed the person taking the survey to
freely express their opinion on the given question. Some questions were set up by first having a
quantitative research question and then the respondents were told to explain why they chose the
given answer. This allowed us to get a more detailed response, thus giving us better insight on healthy
and unhealthy eating.
Results
The results we got were very surprising, yet very insightful. The first question was whether our
respondents would be more satisfied with a cupcake or a chicken and spinach sandwich. The
majority of the respondents chose the chicken and spinach sandwich due to the fact that it was more
filling and a healthier option. Many respondents decided that a cupcake would not benefit them as
much because it was not only unhealthy but it wouldn't count as a proper meal. Next, we

the younger waiter. He likes to be at work. It is where he feels at home. He likes how it is well lit,

The Purpose of Exploratory Research

The Purpose of Exploratory Research: Good Research Questions Years ago, before the advent of
CAT scanners and other noninvasive medical diagnostic procedures, doctors who were stumped
about a patient's symptoms might recommend "exploratory surgery." With little to go on but
vague descriptions of symptoms, physicians would "open up" a patient to look around and see
what needed fixing. In market research, exploratory research plays a similar role. Marketers have
no machines to peer inside a decision problem, so they may use certain research techniques to
"open up" the problem and look around. Researchers use these techniques, which they refer to
collectively as exploratory research, with a single broad purpose: clarify...show more content...
Generally, exploratory research techniques simply involve conversations between a researcher and
the people being studied. Although the researcher may guide the conversation across certain issues,
the questioning is usually informal and semistructured. Thus, the data produced by qualitative
research is textual. That is, the research produces a "text." Although the text is analyzed, the methods
of analyses are not statistical; textual data are not numerical and do not lend themselves to statistical
analysis. This limitation is important. Researchers and decision makers alike often wish to
generalize the conclusions of their research from their samples to some larger population of interest.
Textual data do not permit this kind of generalization. On the other hand, assuming other conditions
are met, quantitative data may be generalized from a sample to a larger population. Making these
generalizations and calculating the margins of error inherent in them requires that the data be
numerical. Generally speaking, research procedures such as surveys and experimentation (often
called confirmatory and causal research, respectively) produce the quantitative data needed for such
analyses. Thus, these two categories of research clearly rely on one another. That is, asking the
right questions of the right people in the right way to produce generalizable statistical results
requires knowing what to ask, who to ask, and how to ask. These facets of research are often

Writing An Exploratory Essay

  • 1. Exploration Narrative Essay The testimonies written in both early exploration narratives and seventeenth century Puritan texts described how a particular explorer viewed the new land of America. Each of these writings had their own deception about the significance of America, both as a physical place and also as an ideal. Christopher Columbus wrote several exploration narratives during his journeys to and from the new land. He offered his own personal definitions and arguments about what he saw and thought about his new discoveries. In the text "Letter to Luis de Santangel", Columbus writes about his crowning achievement, the discovery of new world. I believe that this text helps convey a specific definition of America. Columbus portrayed America as being...show more content... Another passage in this text which shows the idea of America as paradise is "In it there are many harbors on the coast of the sea, beyond comparison with others which I know in Christendom, and many rivers, good and large, which is marvelous." This excerpt from Columbus about the shore of the new world describes how the inlets of the coast make for great harbors. This was an extremely important detail for explorers during that time in history. Sea ports and inlets allowed explorers and the people of the land trade and travel with ease. Columbus knew that harbors were a very significant aspect of land as a territory and as a central reason why an area should be described as marvelous. Another quote from Columbus' letter that is significant is "All are most beautiful, of a thousand shapes, and they are accessible and filled with trees of a thousand kinds and tall, and they seem to touch the sky." This quote describes the mountain ranges which Columbus discovered. He wrote that the curves of the range are beautiful and that they are filled with life. The next line from Columbus tells of the significance of the mountains being overwhelmed with trees. "And I am told that they never lose their foliage, as I can understand, for I saw them as green and as lovely as they are in Spain in May, and some of them were flowering, some bearing fruit, and some in another stage, according to their nature." • 3. Examples Of Exploratory Essay Exploratory Essay How we are viewed to the outside world plays a part in who we we are as individuals, it becomes apart of our identity. No matter how much we try to deny it, how others view us impact how we view ourselves. To the outside world I am just viewed as a Caucasian female, but in reality I am a Mexican American. Throughout the years I have just started to identify as being Caucasian because that is just what everyone assumes, now my case is mild. It has not deeply affected who I am as a person, but for other people they are not so lucky. Being in America we are shoved in stereotypes, there is no uniqueness you are viewed as either 'good white folk', hoodlums, or immigrants. Now imagine being viewed as the latter, your 'race' forces you into the tight space of discrimination. You are now identified as being a hoodlum, that always seems to ...show more content... Your identity has to do with how you view yourself, and incarceration can be a bigger factor in throwing off your own identity. Prisons were originally created to allow the inmate to self reflect on how they were in the wrong. This seclusion is meant for them to see how unworthy they are; they are inferior to the outside world. The Auburn Prison Experiment only made matters worse, the inmates were even identified by what crime they committed. (Mauer) Prisons took away their identity, they were viewed as the lesser. Now, in modern day the punishments are not as strict, but they still leave their scars on the individual. Incarceration rates have started to lower in the 20th century, which would cause many to believe that we are fixing this wrong stereotype but instead we have moved to other forms of punishments. The War on Drugs, which developed in the 1960's, continued to oppress minorities, and shape their own views on their personal identities. Rape culture, victim blaming, and rape myths encompass more gray areas (uncertainties) than mere black (wrong) and white (right) understandings. As few of the studies specifically sought to gain insight in what is considered consent, therefore they exploratory research wanting to purely define and identify the miscommunication and mixed opinions of interpretations of consent, as they consider this to be a root to the problem of rape (16p.907)(8p.470)(19p.518). A fair share of qualitative and quantitative research was conducted in an attempt to adequately address the specific questions that were being asked. All of the research we reviewed used primary data and chose not to utilize secondary data to conduct their experiments, however, several of the studies references secondary data sources when speaking of historical backgrounds of rape and in their discussions. The methods our group has chosen to pay particular interest to are those that were used to gather data from participants at college campuses, as this is the population we wish to further explore. Due to women of college age being at an increased risk for sexual violence, several of the studies we found pursued out this population as well. A study conducted at James Madison University gathered their findings from a participant pool at their university using the Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale, the Modern and Old–Fashion Sexism Scale, and rape scenarios and questions in which they evaluating participants identification with either the victim or the assailant (12p.242) This study was not alone in using the Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale as measure. I wanted to have a better understanding of what my students thought was a good use or a bad use of their time. To better understand my students, I held discussions, administered surveys, conducted interviews, and recorded personal observations. Both Lancaster (2009) and Betz & Kayser (2017) conducted research that mainly looked at students' opinions on their day–to–day school lives. Betz and Kayser's (2017) research emphasized the lack of children input in a research setting and how important it is to gain their perspective. I also learned I over–summarize everything the articles that I am reading and responding to, but I tried to combat this by explaining more in–depth. However, by doing the assignments in smaller parts, compared to only doing a draft and then a final paper, I found it easier to elaborate on the topics in my writing. I also learned the importance of revising papers, especially peer revisions because other people are able to catch mistakes you might miss or help you better explain an idea if they don't understand, something I definitely need and utilized throughout this course. The most rewarding assignment from this class for me was the Individual Exploratory Project. This assignment allowed me to use the tools I learned from assignments before, such as adding voice and personality from the memoir and efficient researching from the rhetorical analysis. I really enjoyed this assignment because it was not written as a typical essay and allowed me to research each question I had as I went through my writing. I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing paragraphs. The design chosen for this study was appropriate but did employ the limitation that the results between each year of students could not be compared within the program. The independent variables were identified as the following: "demographic data (age, relationship status, year in program) [and] quality of life indicators (satisfaction with sleep and leisure activities)" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). Research assistants were hired to interpret the levels of depression the nursing students were experiencing by entering the data into the "SPSS version 18 software program" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). By using the software program, the sample mean from this study was compared with "means in a normative sample" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). By finding a potential relationship, this could be used for further research experiments regarding the opinions towards healthy and unhealthy foods. The first question was whether our respondents would be more satisfied with a cupcake or a chicken and spinach sandwich. The majority of the respondents chose the chicken and spinach sandwich due to the fact that it was more filling and a healthier option. Many respondents decided that a cupcake would not benefit them as much because it was not only unhealthy but it wouldn't count as a proper meal. Next, we Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The Purpose of Exploratory Research Exploratory Research The Purpose of Exploratory Research: Good Research Questions Years ago, before the advent of CAT scanners and other noninvasive medical diagnostic procedures, doctors who were stumped about a patient's symptoms might recommend "exploratory surgery." With little to go on but vague descriptions of symptoms, physicians would "open up" a patient to look around and see what needed fixing. In market research, exploratory research plays a similar role. Marketers have no machines to peer inside a decision problem, so they may use certain research techniques to "open up" the problem and look around. Researchers use these techniques, which they refer to collectively as exploratory research, with a single broad purpose: clarify...show more content... Generally, exploratory research techniques simply involve conversations between a researcher and the people being studied. Although the researcher may guide the conversation across certain issues, the questioning is usually informal and semistructured. Thus, the data produced by qualitative research is textual. That is, the research produces a "text." Although the text is analyzed, the methods of analyses are not statistical; textual data are not numerical and do not lend themselves to statistical analysis. This limitation is important. Researchers and decision makers alike often wish to generalize the conclusions of their research from their samples to some larger population of interest. Textual data do not permit this kind of generalization. On the other hand, assuming other conditions are met, quantitative data may be generalized from a sample to a larger population. Making these generalizations and calculating the margins of error inherent in them requires that the data be numerical. Generally speaking, research procedures such as surveys and experimentation (often called confirmatory and causal research, respectively) produce the quantitative data needed for such analyses. Thus, these two categories of research clearly rely on one another. That is, asking the right questions of the right people in the right way to produce generalizable statistical results requires knowing what to ask, who to ask, and how to ask. These facets of research are often Get more content on HelpWriting.net
