courses that you can choose from.

This one covers N5 grammar. You'll
be tested on some vocabulary, but
mostly short phrases and sentences.

よくなかった → wasn't good

On the actual N5 test, kanji use is
limited to just about a hundred kanji.
However, this course uses all normally
used kanji.

The reason for this is that it is more
useful to you in the real world. Words
are only written in kana if the kanji is
rare or difficult to write.

Japanese'.

What do I mean by 'common
Japanese'? I mean how that word
appears in natural Japanese writing.

You see some words have difficult
kanji, that aren't used often. Like the
word for 'noisy' in Japanese:
うるさい → 煩い (not commonly used)
urusai

So, you are drilled on just the
hiragana spelling of the word and not
the kanji. You won't be drilled on the
reading of the kanji either.
うるさい → 煩い (not commonly used)

The other N5 Course tests you on
the kana spelling of the word then
the kanji spelling of the word.

Some people don't find this very
challenging because it usually just
involves you hitting the space bar to
change it into a kanji character for the
second test.

The N5 Readings course tests you on
how the word appears in common
Japanese and then tests you on its
reading. Like so:
