healthcare delivery
Very excited to share company news – not your everyday run of the mill type of announcementOne of the most exciting moments of my career, it’s why I went into healthcare – honored to have you share it with me
Member milestone is just a starting point. You need critical mass to accomplish something great, but without the community, of limited valueSo the number is meaningful, but it’s what they are doing that matters mostCommunity is a term that is near and dear to us at W1, by the end of this presentation, you will see whyWill focus majority of the remainder of this presentation on community – how translates to improved healthcare
WorldOne – global leader in HC data collection, leaving physicians at end of surveys, giving them no reason to further engage. Started incubating productsEnter Sermo – forum / community – turned into engagement platformSnippet from ourinfographic (have copies with me) – that gives a sense of size, reach, scale and role we play in healthcare
We have shared publicly that we are focused on building clinical value for physicians, at point of care, at point of learningBuilding tools and applications that leverage the unique characteristics of community…just what are those?
People lump networks / communities together, but in reality they are quite different. Network is more transactional / bidirectional, community is more open - lends itself to collaboration / crowdsourcingWent to google, specifically looking for definition that captured the essence of word (i.e. that would carry over to the online world)
shared purpose results in high engagement and responsivenessIn context of our community- members have O + A = E
So we talk about improving healthcare globally, and people turn to us and say, “well, that’s an aspirational goal, but how do you stack up against the elite, Fortune 100 HC brands with life-saving diagnostic capabilities and devices?Let me explain…
Mind you, this is intentionally an oversimplification…We hear from physicians that as much as 40% of cases are in they grey zone, where they need to consult an authoritative source or peer on a case. That’s where Sermo comes in. At the consult where the doctor is gathering information and needs to make an initial decision on how to proceed with care,
such as what tests to run to help diagnose or narrow down the possibilities
After this is done (naturally it could multiple tests, referrals to specialists, etc.), but in this simple scenario, the tests reveal the problem, and the patient is scheduled for treatment (drug therapy, procedure, etc.)So, in essence Sermo sits at the top of the “care funnel.” What is downstream can only be successful if the physician is informed and makes the right decision on what to do next.
So let me walk you throughiConsult, a clinical tool (web and mobile) that helps equip doctors with the requisite knowledge in these 40% of casesStructured input on vitals, indication, etc.
Posted at 3:22 (in the middle of the night)Look how quickly responses come in – this speaks to community (accountability, trust, wanting to help your peers)Solved On Sermo – author came back and said Sermo docs helped him solve this case
More evidence of communityAlso shows great multi-disciplinary interaction – often times cases are complex and require expertise across specialties (8 specialties interacted – very common)
Perhaps most obvious use case is the remote physician who doesn’t have colleagues across specialties as readily accessible, but also high adoption amongst docs at teaching hospitals in urban areas
So now we’re getting to the good stuff – the case studyTurn I over to Sky to give an overview of FD – emphasize community
Well, it’s clear how Sermo / iConsult can help doctors in the field in extreme circumstance, but let me bring it back…Near zero cost – because it’s voluntary, the only incentive/motivation today is altruistic Growth of the community has dramatic impact on the quality and urgency with which the physicians are responding and patients receive care
We’re proud of the average #, but volume and # of specialties, but most important are Response / solving time (2 min to respond, 2 hours to solve)
Physician to physician – both parties educated, have experience to lean on and determine how to interpret feedbackTechnology is important, but this is not equipment or a machine making decisions remotely, these are highly qualified physicians (e.g. 288 yrs of experience). Also, not class 2 requiring regulationSermo is an exchange or intermediary – no underlying commercial motivation in connecting docs – unbiased and pureNot supporting any drug, device or procedure. Unlike EMR (US), hospital networks or regional communities,Sermo will be free to any doctor globally
Can already see some of the global benefits with Sermo (i.e. FD) yet still only avail to U.S. doctors. Can dramatically increase the use cases by making accessible to every doc around the worldiConsult is a key pillar of our strategy and mission. We are committed to further developing it and other clinical resources/tools to meet the needs of docs around the world
