2. PLANNING
We used various sources to plan the storyline and general idea
surrounding our film. IMDB provided a large amount of information
about films similar to the one we wanted to produce, including
general themes and tropes of the psychological thriller genre and
plotline ideas. Rotten Tomatoes was a further source of this
information; it gave us vital knowledge on general audience responses
to different plotlines. Search engines such as Google and YouTube
helped us gain a more visual insight into tropes and the general
setting of psychological thrillers. Finally, we used Blogger to organise
and display work, as well as reflecting upon past research as a referral
tool.
3. PRE-PRODUCTION
Planning for our film aided us in an easier production process. In the
pre-production stage of development, we used the program Celtex to
write a script. Initially, the system appeared confusing and we had
difficulty in operating the various scene headings and dialogue types.
However, it was an effective and cheap way to develop a well
formatted script overall. We used a template on Microsoft Word to
create a shot list and risk assessment. This was easy, as the template
allowed us to simply enter the needed shots; our pre-existing
knowledge of safety and angles made it a simple process.
4. PRODUCTION
We decided to film our movie on a handheld Panasonic HC V270
camera as it was affordable and high quality for its small size; it was
easy to transport to and from filming locations. However, having only
one camera did pose a problem as to get multiple angles for a scene
you had to get multiple takes. This increased the time needed to film,
which was problematic when filming outdoors. To edit our footage,
we used Adobe Premier Pro. It was difficult to use at first, as it is a
highly advanced editing software and has features that require
research to use. However, once learned, it was a highly effective and
easy software to use and as such the editing process took very little
time.
