The document is a summary of a sermon given on the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost about the biblical story of Zacchaeus the tax collector. The sermon notes that Zacchaeus, though a sinner, desperately wanted to see Jesus and climbed a tree to do so. When Jesus saw him, he invited himself to Zacchaeus's house. While others grumbled about Jesus associating with a sinner, Jesus came to seek and save the lost. The sermon emphasizes that Jesus wants to save all people, regardless of who they are, and anyone who strives to see Jesus, like Zacchaeus, will be welcomed by him.
2. Are we getting fed up with how bad guys seem to get
away with things?
“Don’t waste your
time la… he cannot
change one la”
3. Today… What’s on our minds?
Do we wish
that the wrath
of God would
just fall on
some
people?
Jesus doesn’t…
4. Today…
What does God’s Word have to say to us today?
Luke 19: 1-10 – Zacchaeus the Tax Collector
5. Context… what happened just before this?
Luke 18: 35-43 – A Blind Man Receives Sight
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”
6.
7. 19:1 He entered Jericho and was
passing through it.
19:2 A man was there named
Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax
collector and was rich.
19:3 He was trying to see who
Jesus was, but on account of the
crowd he could not, because he
was short in stature.
19:4 So he ran ahead and
climbed a sycamore tree to see
him, because he was going to
pass that way.
8. Message for today…
The people we least think wants
anything to do with Jesus… actually
wants to know Jesus
Where are we in this story?
9. 19:5 When Jesus came to the
place, he looked up and said to
him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come
down; for I must stay at your
house today."
19:6 So he hurried down and was
happy to welcome him.
19:7 All who saw it began to
grumble and said, "He has gone to
be the guest of one who is a
sinner."
10. Message for today…
We may not feel many deserve
Jesus…. We are wrong… Nobody
deserves Jesus, yet He died for us,
because He loves us all
Jesus has the intention to save all
Are we sitting on Jesus’ throne? We need to step down
11. 19:8 Zacchaeus stood there and
said to the Lord, "Look, half of my
possessions, Lord, I will give to the
poor; and if I have defrauded
anyone of anything, I will pay back
four times as much.”
19:9 Then Jesus said to him,
"Today salvation has come to this
house, because he too is a son of
Abraham.
19:10 For the Son of Man came to
seek out and to save the lost."
12. Message for today…
Jesus comes to seek the lost…
Zacchaeus, after all, is a child of
Abraham.
Jesus did not commend what
Zacchaeus proclaimed he will do. It is a
result, not a condition of God’s love or
salvation
Does that mean we will never be ready? NO!
