Introduction
The General project which we were allotted with was
Intensive Care Unit Automation System(ICUAS) and its
integration into the existing Hospital Information
Management System(HIMS).
Jubilee Mission Medical College, Trissur was identified as
the venue for conducting a case study and a Pilot
Implementation of this Project.

Current Workflow
The Patient Medical Record (PMR) is a systematic
documentation of an individuals medical history.
The major disadvantage of this system is that it requires
considerable amount of space, time and effort to maintain.
The paper record is not always legible and poor indexing
of data makes the finding of information
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) uses the alternative
method of storage of all health care data in electronic
format.
The advent of EMR has not only changed the format of
medical records but also increased accessibility of
information contained in the repository.

The ICU Automation system is designed in such a way
that there is a central server where the database and
applications are deployed.
The automation organizes high volume device data, lab
results, calculations, orders, medications and clinical
documentation for physicians, nurses and other members
of the hospital team.

servers deployed in it. PostGreSQLserves as the DBMS
engine and JBOSS provides the application server
functionality.
