Today's youth are the future of tomorrow and they will be in professions and trades that will shape
our economy. They will be the policy–makers who will guide our society and they will be the

In society's movies, teens are usually portrayed as being carefree and reckless; however, new
studies have shown otherwise. Teens today are waiting longer than ever to drink, drive, get a

money to pay for your college courses that you don't attend. It is no one's responsibility but yours to
come to class and learn what is taught. You must be self–reliant to succeed in life. You cannot go to

who do this will not keep a job long. To be successful in life, you must have financial security and

World youth day is a festival that occurs once every three years, organised by the Catholic Church
where young people from all around the world gather in the name of Jesus to practise their faith.
This day is celebrated every year at a diocese level held by the local bishop. And then every three

There is no doubt that the importance of education and schooling in the lives of our youth today. It
serves many purposes such as attainment of knowledge, the opportunity to reach goals and the
learning of norms in our society. It also provides other latent functions such as child care and a safe
place to be when parents are working. School also allows for other functions to occur such as
patriotism, innovation, competition and establishing peer friendships. Education and schooling is a
necessity in any society and at its core helps establish and teach the norms and laws of a society.
But we are imperfect people and in any imperfection there is conflict.
Due to social placement, students at an early age are put on a certain track that undermines many
students their ability to succeed. Students, as soon as they reach elementary school, are placed in
certain categories labeling or tracking them in a certain way. If a child does not catch on or takes
more attention to get to answers or attain knowledge, teachers may put them on a slower pace easier
track and pass that information on to the next teacher. If students are at a higher pace they might be
put in the gifted or advance track. This becomes a self–fulfilling prophecy where both the teacher
and the student believe in what they have been told or what they have assessed. A child's
self–esteem is formed in the years that they are enrolled in school. I am a parent of two differently
abled children. My oldest always had trouble in school and I knew right away that something was
not right, I asked teacher after to teacher to get her tested and instead they labeled my child as
inept. They just kept piling homework on her that would last hours instead of really helping my
child. Finally, right before third grade I forced the issue and she was tested. She was diagnosed with
dyslexia, short term memory loss and ADD. She was also was determined to have an above average
IQ. My child was placed or tracked into the lower classes when what she really needed was help. I

crimes, than that of adults. The rehabilitation was thought to be more effective for children (Taylor

These are the people Jose Rizal warned us about, the phony fungus of society. The leeches that will
suck the national funds dry and live the life of jet–setters and royalties. Rizal wants the youth to be
the guardians of these fake leaders. To be vigilant and expose the true agenda of these crooks
disguise as honorable ladies or gentlemen in long gowns and 3–piece suit. Our youth should have the
intellectual maturity necessary to save our country from further exploitation not only from our own
leaders but also from foreign entities.
Rizal's dream for our country to develop individuals in his caliber or even better still remains a
dream. It is so sad to note that if Rizal were to resurrect today, he would be very disappointed at
the supposedly future leaders of our nation. Today's youth tend to live more individualistic lives
because our present society is surrounded by commercialism in which people are more inclined to
follow a materialistic way of life. No one seems to care about nationalism anymore. The students
most specially, are trying to be anything than Filipino. Western culture is all around us and deeply
rooted in our system. Teenagers have memorized all the names of American singers & actors and
their latest music and movies but not one of them can give you at least five names of our heroes
who fought and died for Philippine independence. If not for these heroes, we will

Troubled Youth Today
Youth today are dramatically different than the youth just fifteen years ago. Styles, schooling,
resistance, and especially consequences have changed a lot. Children can no longer come home
after school with a note from the teacher and receive a lashing with dad's belt. No longer can they
wear the dunce hat in class when misbehaving. Though this is a good thing, it has become much
harder for parents to control and maintain their children. In "Children Should Be Seen Not Heard"
by Gill Valentine, a single mother states, "I think children are allowed to get away with more
because we're so frightened of Social Services...they know there's nothing you can do to stop it."

Some pros of the long term program are that because they are longer the student has the chance and
time to really work on their issues with the help of much more intensive therapy than an RTC.
Instead of having to leave school for a month or two at these programs there is schooling offered to
help the students to not fall too far behind and even catch up if they were behind. Though the
structure can be seen as harmful at times, it also teaches the students the importance of structure in
their lives and not just being a wild spontaneous party animal. The staff and students have more time
to create bonds that can be lifelong along with student–student relationships. Having relationships
with the people where you are living helps one to feel more at home and they have a better chance
of becoming more open and letting people in emotionally to help them. Because of these aspects
of longer programs they tend to have a very good outcome. The youth who are being sent to these
programs are coming from all different backgrounds of race, gender, and class in particular. These
youth tend to be children who have either not had enough rules growing up or too many, and they
have found their own ways to resist society, especially in the face of their parents, and have been
sent to these places to get help. Family life has changed

The Youth Of Today Poem Analysis
People always talk about wanting to return to when they were young. Youth is an indistinct phase of
life that one goes through before reaching adulthood. It is considered a prime time in a person's life
when anything is possible. Two poems present different sides of youth that perfectly sums up what
being young is like. "The Youthof Today," by Barry Mowles talks about struggles that current
youths are facing in society. Meanwhile, "Modern Youth" by Dr. A. Celestine Raj Manohar,
describes the current generation as a group of bright young people who are constantly striving for
success. While the two poems both talk about the "youths of today," "Modern Youth" creates the
image of bright, independent adolescents with powerful vocabulary and "The Youth of Today"
constructs a dark and dreary tone through imagery. "The Youth of Today" showcases the negative
side of the current generation. The first few lines of the poem starts off by saying that older
generation made the world the way it is for the current youth to step in to. The phrase "this way"
has a negative connotation to show the author's contempt for the current condition of the world.
Mowles also talks about the negative effects of peer pressure when he said, "Peer pressure is
weighing down our future generations." Girls are pressured into looking like media
representation of females, where they're forced to be thin and get plastic surgery for
imperfections. Peer pressure was metaphorically described as actual pressure that is pushing down
on youths and causing strain. This creates an oppressive image of societal norms weighing down
like heavy dumbbells to restrain individuality. Mowles also mentions the negative impact of
technology. He describes the loneliness of technology and social media by saying that "children
are now living in a virtual world" that does not allow them to communicate face to face. Instead of
focusing on the positive impact of advanced technology, such as the ability to communicate
globally, Mowles fixates on how technology hinders adolscents' ability to socialize. This slow
disintegration of socializing is a growing issue that countries try to solve with efforts such as the
