Evaluation question 2

  1. Evaluation Question 2 + Marketing How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  2. What are my ancillary projects? § My two tasks were to make a double page spread advertisement of our production. This involved using cameras to capture the image and adobe software such Light room and Photoshop, to create my finished product. Making my poster was done by researching existing posters and magazine advertisement and finding common and effective elements to feed into my product. I felt that choosing this form of media would be beneficial for the show as it would make perfect sense to target people the TV audience in their type of magazine. • The other form of media I chose was a short radio advert to be played and shown on the internet as well as being played on local radio stations. I felt that radio would be an excellent chance to paint an image into our audience head so that we can ensure the curiosity and mystery about or show, yet giving no major details away.
  3. Analysing real media campaigns and marketing § Importance of marketing Marketing is a very vital part of a film or television programs success. It is the part of the project which tells the audience what they are selling and what it is.A lot of institutes have a very large budget for marketing as marketing product is just as important as the making the actual product. § To make our ancillary products work alongside each other we decided on launching and planning our own marketing campaign to attract a large local audience. This was done by carefully planning when and where we should release trailers and posters to be in our magazine. § § Cross media convergence was vital in the success of our campaign and we had to make sure that it would be recognised and successful prior to the release for the final product. We researched that a lot more people have smartphones in our area and usually communicate on SNS a lot more than other media such as radio. Our main focused was to have a large online presence across YouTube and Facebook, this allowed us to reach out to who we want. 4. Analysing real media campaigns and marketing § During analysing of existing media products I also looked at existing media campaigns and how successful they were. For our main product we wanted to promote it as best as we can in our local area, we decided on creating a poster that will be placed in a double page paper and will be realised on our social media page as well as being placed around our school environment. § The real media campaigns we analysed was Avatar,An Idiot Abroad,The Office (UK) and Borat. We took important elements of all these campaigns and used them in the construction and marketing of our product. I saw that there was a lot of cross media convergence within their marketing campaign as they can target many people of different media plat forms. § Construction and Planning - Posters In the designing and concept phase of our ancillary products we had to make sure that they were going to be successful in achieving the reach of our target audience. We had to carefully plan what elements we should include and research techniques that will attract our target audience to our product. § For both the poster and the radio advertisement we had to try and make them the same in terms of showing off our product. I had to make the two ancillary tasks link with the our product and to sell it like modern marketing Campaign to reach to our target audience. § Construction and Planning – Radio Advert While designing our adverts we decided that we all create something a little different involving each character and slightly changing the way we present our final product in this form of media. We had to use similar elements that makes the Radio Advert link in with our main product. We also scripted our productions making it easier to follow and understand through recording. § The radio advert was important in reaching people who maybe don’t have access to Social media or are currently listening to the radio, it was important in extending our reach in forms of audio and informative information without moving image § We initially wanted to have a involvement in each others adverts, possibly recording a interview for a radio show as like on BBC Radio 1. § § Elements I included (Posters) -Local interest, pictures of the local area. -Selling the Product, using bold titles and giving an insight into the product -Colours, using colours in the title and in editing was vital in attracting our male audience. § Effects -Our posters stand out and have a clear link to our product -The Posters do well in showing an insight into the upcoming show -Character Introduction
  5. Social Media and release  During the build up to the release of our product we carefully planned our ancillary release in build up to the final products release, so that we could supply our audience with fresh new content to keep them interest and hyped for the product. Doing this also created a very large fan base in our sixth from.Although our production didn’t make any sales it was important to learn how important marketing your product is.  Our ancillary products were such an important part of our marketing campaign and effectively promoted our final product. It appealed well and  We made three posters so that one could be used as our SNS banner and the other as normal advertisement for our product.Along with the posters also came our teaser and official trailer release as we could maximise our audience reach on different media platforms § As with all Hollywood and big budget productions, social media is still an extremely popular if not vital source of marketing. Social media is consumed by over 90% of the Western world whilst being accessible pretty much when and wherever desired. Such is the power of social media, we knew we had to take advantage of it as it’s also free and simple to administrate. § We decided to set up Ben and J accounts on FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and even an official website. Using these social medias, we slowly drip fed our audience posters, teaser trailers and exclusive interviews. § By releasing such content on social media, fans could easily share, comment like and ultimately promote our film at no cost to us. An audience could be reached worldwide potentially within seconds of release. § Instagram allowed us to post stills of Ben and Js characters, locations and behind the scenes pictures within different albums. It was a more professional and aesthetically pleasing way to publish the pictures compared to other social medias.  The Importance of Social Media Marketing (Video) § Our team sat down and watched a couple ofYouTube videos on marketing online and were amazed at the amount of people that are using SNS every day.We decided that our marketing efforts will be focusing on cross media advertising. This involved releasing content on different platforms and making sure that cross media conventions were present.
  6. How our ancillary tasks benefited our main product  With the realised content now on the internet it gave our viewers and fans a different look of what is to come soon. The different types of media platforms helped attract people from different sites such as SoundCloud,Twitter,Youtube and Facebook. Early December was prime time for our product, people were engaging on our Social Media page and requesting more content to be realised, after demand raised we decided to make some short trailers made from extra footage we shot.Which would tend to consumer demand.  I cannot say how much our tasks have helped in the release of On Gangs and how the audience helped in our evaluation questions. We received a grand amount of feedback which would aid us in what we can do better in our next project and what we did extremely well.  I would also add that choosing two different media platforms to work on was such a good decision on my part. It made sure that we had two hubs to work from in marketing and made it able to expand our product into to different areas to have a presence.Without our tasks I don’t think our product would have been successful and it would mean that less people would have seen it to make feedback. Introduction trailer was realised ahead of release Success within days of release
  7. Forms and Conventions  Poster / Magazine The poster in the magazine is very unique, usually posters are In magazines often promote a good or a service, making a large poster would greatly help the production gain publicity and acknowledgment.  In forms of creation the tag line title and intuitional information remains conventional and gets the point across as we planned.  The Titles and information is bold and in white against a slightly darker background making it noticeable and make sure it stands out to the viewer. We also changed a lot of the text elements to make it stand out.  Radio Advert In the radio advert I wanted to include some sort of comedy element, to show the listeners that it is indeed a comedy. I got this with adding music which is clearly not emplace and creating comedy. Asking rhetorical questions during the ad also created a lot of curiosity and an interest for what actually happens in the community you live in.  As far as forms and conventions the advert is unique, as it plays with comedy and a serious side throughout. And also there is a lack of Television program based radio adverts again making this tasks unique Including the important institute information is also conventional in mostly all advertisement in radio as it sets up a base to go to for more of the same content.
