What is History “Questions of the Past [that have] created us” – James Burke ,[object Object]
All history should be verified through: Reliable Witness + Logical Possibility+ Observable Causes. (They all must be consistent)History Books are secondary sources since they rely on primary sources for evidence There are two sources to help verify history: Primary : A statement by someone who was either: there, witnessed or participated in the event. Secondary: A statement by someone wasn’t actually there but uses a statement by a primary source as evidence. Television reporters can be seen as Primary sources when they are participating in an event.
What is History THE DAY THE UNIVERSE CHANGED The main points in this video included: that every society protects what they believe to be their truths, also it was stated by James Burke that because we are curious we have asked many questions which have led to today’s technological achievements. Technology is being used to find Amelia Earhart’s missing plane. How Scientist are solving History’s Riddles ,[object Object]
Technology is being used to try and find what is on the 18 ½ minutes erased from the famous Nixon Tapes.
Scientist like Joe Nickell are using old “ancient ink” with “modern methods”:DNA Testing – finding out who is related Carbon Dating - being able to use Carbon atoms to find out how old something is. The technology is always advancing
The work of Spencer Wells has shown that all Homo Sapiens today have arrived from one male ancestor in Africa. ,[object Object]
Some believe that instead of there being one ancestor there may been a few hundred ancestors that we all are connected to.Scientist Richard Klein believes that around 45000 years ago a mutation in our DNA allowed for language development. This language developed help our Ancestors communicate and begin to migrate. The Journey of Man
The Journey of Man Blood In blood there is DNA and in the DNA of men there is Y-chromosome which is passed unchanged from father to son. This allows researchers like Spencer Wells to track down the ancestors of all humans. Timeline of Human Migration ,[object Object]
45,000 years ago – Movement into Middle East
35,000 years ago – Movement into China

  • 14. Catastrophe! 1500 years ago during the Year 535 A.D. there was a massive volcanic eruption from the Krakatau Caldera. This explosion spewed a lot sulfuric acid and ash into the air. This led to a massive “dimming” of the sun for about 18 months. David Keyes did research into this and learned that this eruption probably led to a massive reorganization of the government powers around the world. This the Krakatau, the caldera volcano that caused a massive blackout in 535 A.D.

  • 17. Changing Interpretations of America’s Past Lost cities of the Amazon Although 16th century Spaniards noted a large population in the Amazon. Scientist believed that because of the climate of the Amazon Rain Forest that there was never a true complex civilization that lived there. But over the last few years there has been more evidence to prove that there was true complex nation that lived there. It has even led researchers like Colonel Fawcett to their deaths. The evidence which includes pottery and a special soil that cannot be replicated today has been found along the Xingu river. The pottery includes urns for the dead and soil was used to bury the dead, and grown crops which were previously believed not to be able to grow in the Amazon.
