Start of RotaKids
The RotaKids is a club for children up to 13 years with a structure similar to an Interact is an
initiative created from the Rotary principles and the idea of the child aware its responsibility to
society and the world as best step to make it citizen its fullness.
In Brazil, it was in 1996 that the RotaKids originated. The EGD Samir Khoury, District 4420, in a
festive club presiding - Rotary Club of São Paulo- Health, some children were attending the
event. Then he gave these children some functions. There was born the RotaKids, which at
that time was named KidsAct. A few years later, when Samir was Governor, happened the first
formal foundations, and from then on, with the RotaKids name. Currently, there are many
RotaKids operating in Brazil. The RotaKids Clubs have been recognized by Rotary International
for approval of the proposed resolution 04-129 of the Council on Legislation in June 2004.
The purpose of RotaKids is to support opportunities for children to organize themselves in
groups, exercise leadership and receive the seed of Rotary ideals with the philosophy of
"Serving Play". Stimulate teaching values such as dignity and respect for others, as important
and necessary for the formation of human character.
pg. 4
Objectives RotaKids
The main objectives of a RotaKids Club are:
1. Sowing the ideals of Rotary members
2. Encourage constructive leadership and your own exercise
3. Family importance of awareness
4. Experiencing the true fellowship
5. Learn to respect the rights of each
6. Recognize the merit of all professions
7. Sedimentary that ethics should be present in all personal achievements, regardless of
age
8. Encourage the love of nature and the need for its preservation
9. To promote the values of citizenship
A RotaKids Club brings several benefits to the sponsoring Rotary club, for example, families
begin to participate in Club meetings as they come along with the children.
The little ones can cause interest of the community to know how to place the meetings of a
club, and from there the club can gain new members. The RotaKids can feed Interact, Rotaract,
and Rotary.
pg. 5
Establishing RotaKids Club
This chapter is primarily intended to Rotarians who want to establish a RotaKids Club.
It is not difficult to found a RotaKids. It begins with the organization of a group of children,
which can be grandchildren, nephews, children, Rotarians neighbours. The Club President
appoints fellow Rotarians and with the help of wives of Rotarians, ladies of the House of
Friendship will accompany the future rotakidianos. When these are ready, everything is fine
and mark up a date for the foundation of the club of the little ones. If there is time available,
the district governor is present on the day of foundation of RotaKids.
Guided by the sponsoring Rotary club, RotaKids clubs have administrative and financial
autonomy. Members of Rotary Club who want to sponsor a RotaKids Club should read this
book and talk to Rotarians. The following steps will help ensure that new clubs are formed on
solid foundation.
It is recommended that Rotarians, young people
and school counsellors consult and follow the
steps in the process of organizing the club.
Five Steps to Success
First step: Rotary Club Sponsor
If the Rotary club is interested in sponsoring a RotaKids Club, you must first form a subcommittee
to address the issue. Should consult the chairman of the district committee of new generations,
which can provide information on other RotaKids Clubs operate in the district. Collected the
necessary information to follow up sponsorship, the subcommittee presents the Rotary Club.
If the Board of Directors of Rotary Club resolved by sponsoring a RotaKids Club, then you must
decide whether it will be based in school or have the community based or the clubhouse.
If the Rotary Club decide to sponsor a RotaKids Club based in school, RotaKids subcommittee
member should meet with those eligible in the school to explain the details of the program.
Rotarians, along with those responsible in school, determine the criteria for membership in the
Club RotaKids, standards, time and place of the meetings of the club and who will be the
guidance counselor.
Second step: potential rotakidianos Identification
If the club is based in school, the guidance counsellor can advise where to recruit members,
such as:
• Community canter’s, churches, sports and recreation clubs, primary schools
• Children and community Rotarians relatives
Step Three: Inviting prospective members to informational meeting
In addition to potential rotakidianos, it is prudent and advisable to attend an informational
meeting:
• RotaKids Subcommittee Member
• President of the Rotary Club
pg. 6
• District Committee President of New Generations
• Educational Advisor, if the club is based in school
• Rotakidianos clubs nearby, to share their experiences
Suggested format for briefings:
• Tell the story of Rotary and RotaKids
• Distribute copies of the publication Rotary Basics (595)
• Explain the rules and objectives of the program
• To highlight the internationality of the program, including partnerships with youth
from other countries
• Taking time to answer questions of the heads of potential rotakidianos
At the end of the meeting:
• Take a vote to see if there's enough interest to establish a RotaKids Club. Keep in mind
that although not required, it is recommended that the RotaKids Club is formed by at
least 10 founding members
• Set a date for the first meeting of the new club
Step Four: Organization Meeting
The organization of meetings of the club should not be carried out with more than two weeks
spacing between them. Rotarian counsellor and the counsellor, in the case of club based in
school, must collect contact data of all those who attended the meetings, asking them to invite
friends and acquaintances to meetings.
• Hold elections for the choice of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and
other members of the direct advice.
• Create a membership plan to RotaKids Club to ensure a balanced number of young
people of both sexes, as well as students from each grade level or age understood by
the program.
• Discuss and provide for annual club dues.
• Determine where and when club meetings will be held, which must take place at least
twice a month.
• Begin planning for service activities, fundraising campaigns and opening ceremony of
the club.
• Explain the constitutional documents to members.
pg. 7
Step Five: Foundation Ceremony
The sponsoring Rotary club can hold an opening ceremony of RotaKids Club, to which should
be invited to the governor, the president of the district committee of New Generations. The
ceremony can be made according to the tradition of sponsoring club, however, to be marked is
due:
• Place names rotakidianos new club in the ceremony program.
• Make brief report on Rotary and the Four-Way Test.
• Describe how the new rotakidianos are part of the Rotary family.
• Talk about the history of RotaKids and how was the beginning of the new club.
• Make the Pledge Rotakidianos ( model in the documents)
• Make the admission of members one by one, leaving to indicate who are the officers
and directors of the club.
• Deliver the pin of Rotakids each associated.
• Allow the President of RotaKids make his inaugural speech.
• Take lots of photos.
pg. 8

creativity, informal conversations and activities that strengthen the bonds between members.
Strong membership
It is essential that the club bring new rotakidianos and has a favourable environment for
current members remain engaged. To this end, members must participate in the activities of
the club and take on leadership roles. To grow, the club needs new members attuned to the
social aspect and the provision of services.
Project planning
RotaKids clubs should take at least two projects a year: one in favour of the school or
community and one that promotes humanitarian aid. These projects are an excellent way for
rotakidianos get involved with the community, make friends and attract new members.
With a little imagination and a lot of effort there are no limits to what the RotaKids Club can
do. Although the clubs have autonomy to select their own projects, you may want to choose
those that fall under the Opportunities list Menu of Service or fit with the themes of important
dates of the Rotary calendar.
pg. 10
Publication of club activities
The club and its projects will get more support only if people know of its existence. An
exemplary conduct helps the club to attract new members, and helps people to have a positive
impression on the RotaKids and Rotary.
Fundraising campaigns
Because the RotaKids clubs become self-sustaining, the dues cannot be high and fundraising
activities are essential to finance the activities and projects of the club. Some examples of
fundraising campaigns are: car wash, contests, raffles, hiking, bazaar, fashion show and artistic

It begins with the organization of a group of children, which can be grandchildren, nephews, children, Rotarians neighbours. The Club President appoints fellow Rotarians and with the help of wives of Rotarians, ladies of the House of Friendship will accompany the future rotakidianos.
