Lab activity 2
1. Lab Activity 2: Naturalistic
Observation
Baguio, Sarah
Brillantes, Michael
Fajardo, Julianne
Ortiz, Lenard
Sison, Juan Miguel
2. What we wanted to know
Which gender was more prone to
violate the ENTRANCE and EXIT
policy of the LS Bookstore by
going out the ENTRANCE door?
3. How we did it
• Naturalistic observation
we positioned ourselves
strategically, and unobtrusively
• Sarah sat in Bo’s Coffee
• Lenny sat on the floor,
Miko was in the book reception
area
• Julianne and Miguel sat in the
iStudio
4. How we did it
• After being in our respective
positions, we took record of
different people who violated
this policy and separated
them by gender
• The results were averaged for
the final data, then analyzed
9. Definition of “ violation”
• People who exited the
entrance door at least a body
part, like a foot, or whole
body
• People who attempted (touched
the handle, but backed out,
went beyond the alarm sensors
and turned around)
13. Our observations
• Females tended to violate as a
group, males tended to do it
alone
In general, people people did it
after seeing a previous violation
• Some, still however did it alone
Freshmen tended to violate (we
knew they were freshmen thru the
color of ID number)
14. Our observations
• The entrance door being open
served as a temptation to
exit through it
• When the door was closed,
some still deliberately
opened the door and exited
through it
15. Results
• Total number of people who
exited properly: 553
Males: 287
• Females: 266
16. Results
• Total number of people who
violated: 62
Males: 33
• Females: 29
17. Results
• Percentage violation of males
and females: 10.09%
Males: 10.31%
• Females: 9.83%
18. C onclusion
Both males and females
are equally prone to
violate the ENTRANCE and
EXIT policy of the LS
Bookstore by going out
the ENTRANCE door.
