Internship Programme
An ‘Internship’ is a temporary position with an emphasis on
on-the-job training, and it can be paid or unpaid.
Internship provides a test of whether the student is ready and
able to link his classroom learnings with real performance
challenges.
Also the organization needs the opportunity to make a crucial
contribution to the student's professional development, and to
present a self-development challenge beyond anything the
classroom can provide (Anthony, 1981).

It helps to develop confidence among students to

Opportunity for LIS department to collaborate with

  • 3. Internship Programme An ‘Internship’ is a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training, and it can be paid or unpaid. Internship provides a test of whether the student is ready and able to link his classroom learnings with real performance challenges. Also the organization needs the opportunity to make a crucial contribution to the student's professional development, and to present a self-development challenge beyond anything the classroom can provide (Anthony, 1981).

Importance of LIS Internship Practical training to LIS students Exposure to the job industry Opportunity for students to show their skills It helps to develop confidence among students to join their first job Opportunity for LIS department to collaborate with industry Opportunity for libraries to work on projects with new generation LIS students who learn the latest in their course
