My body
1. Our body works like
a machine with the
help of various
organs present in it.
Our body consists of
many systems. A
system is a group of
organs that work for
a particular
function.
2. All living things take
in oxygen and give
out carbon-dioxide.
This process is called
breathing. The
process of breathing
takes place
continuously without
any rest. If this
process stops for
more than two
minutes the living
being dies.
4. The air enters our body through
nose. The nose is connected to
lungs by windpipe. The lungs
circulates oxygen to all the
body parts. Blood also collects
carbon-dioxide from all the
body parts of the body and
brings it to the lungs.
5. Skeletal system makes a
framework of the body. It
gives us shape and
support. The skeletal
framework also protect
the inner delicate organs.
8. It is made up of
eight flat bones.
The skull protects
the most delicate
organ, the brain.
There are two
jaws- upper and
lower. The lower
jaw is movable.
The movement of
lower helps us to
eat, talk or laugh.
9. The backbone is
connected to the
skull. It is made up
of thirty-three
small bones. It
protects our spinal
cord. These small
bones give
flexibility to our
back.
10. There are twelve
pairs of ribs forming a
cage around the
delicate organs like
heart and lungs. The
last two pairs of ribs
are called floating
ribs as they are
connected to the
backbone only and
not to the breast
bone.
11. The fore limbs are
joined to the spine by
shoulder girdles and
collar bone.
The hind limbs bear
the weight of the
whole body. The
upper part of the hind
limbs is made up of
the longest bone in
our body, femur. The
femur is connected
to lower two bones at
knee.
12. A place where two bones
meet is called a joint
