Keeping It Simple
Long complex sentences may work on paper but you need to be a really good speech writer to
make them work in contemporary presentations.
You’re safer keeping your sentences and words simple and put them in a logical order. That
means grouping words tightly so that each group represents one complete thought. Above all,
don’t severe your subject from the main verb.
For example: - “I believe that the most important task for a trainer is to increase the confidence of
the presenter.”
Not… “I believe, because of the stresses of today’s workplace, the long hour’s culture and the
natural competitiveness of city life, the most important task for the manager is to increase the
confidence of the presenter.”
The last sentence may sound grander but it’s much harder to listen to. It’s also harder to speak.
