  3.  The Standardization American football was started in 1873. With rules instituted by Walter Camp, player and coach at Yale University  The first rules for American football were written. Walter Camp, who would become known as the father of American football, first became involved with the game  People from Yale, Columbia, Princeton, and Rutgers met at a Hotel in New York City to make the first set of intercollegiate football rules. Before this meeting, each school had its own set of rules and games were usually played using the home team's own particular code. At this meeting, a list of rules, based more on soccer than on rugby, was drawn up for intercollegiate football games.

  6.  America played Canada in a football game in 1895  There are codes of football that share a common history with American football. Canadian football is a form of the game that evolved parallel to American football. While both games share a common history, there are some important differences between the two.
  7.  The American Football League became the National Football League in 1920  The American Professional Football Association was formed in 1918. This league changed its name to the National Football League (NFL) two years later(1920) and eventually became the major league of American football.
  8.  The Heisman trophy is a trophy for the best college football player  This trophy is introduced in 1935  New York City's Downtown Athletic Club awarded the first Heisman Trophy to Chicago halfback Jay Berwanger
  9.  An NFL game airs on television for the first time. The Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Eagles were playing on the field. Since fewer than 1,000 TV sets are known to exist in New York at the time, it is unclear whether anyone actually watches the broadcast.  The first televised game in 1939
  10.  More people voted in a national survey that choose pro football over pro baseball as their favorite sport in 1965  Football has more action then baseball
  11.  Green Bay Packers easily defeat the Kansas City Chiefs to win the first Super Bowl. More than 32,000 tickets go unsold for the game, held in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The game draws more television viewers than any previous sporting event.  This game took place in 1967
  12.  The AFL is affisualy out of the football league  The National Football Conference and The American Football Conference are formed.  AFC is out in 1970
