WorkingTitle – House of the Unknown
Genre – The projectwe are doingisa Horror filmtrailer,withparanormal themesthroughout.
Duration – The trailerwill lastbetween2and 4 minutes.
Target Audience – The targetaudience forour projectis15 - 30+ malesand females,of anyrace.We
will alsobe aimingthistrailerata certaindemographic,C1whichislowermiddle classandbelow.
Outline – At the beginningof the story(the exposition) ayoungcouple (Kate andBen) move intoa
newhouse andoverthe nextfewweekstheybegintounpacktheirbelongingsandmake themselves
at home.Quite a fewdayspass,theyare finallysettlinginthe new house.While theygetreadytogo
to bedone night,Kate noticesthatBenhas veryweirdmarkingsandscratcheson hisback, she
decidestotake a closerlookbutthennoticesthe same markingsonher thighbuttheyjust ignore
them.Towardsthe endof unpacking,theyputunwantedbelongingsinthe attic.The risingaction
starts whenKate findsabox alreadyup there andtheybothdecide tohave a lookthroughit and find
lotsof differentnewspaperarticles,notesandimagesaboutdeathsthathave happenedinthe
house thattheywere nottold aboutbefore theymovedin.Astheyare lookingthroughthe box,
there isa noise fromthe bottomof the stairsthat soundlike footsteps.Theylookateachother
confusedandBenslowlywalksclosertothe bedroomdoortohave a lookdownthe stairsbutthe
footstepsoundsgetfasterandthe bedroomdoorslamsshut.Theybothtry to forgetaboutthese
suspicioushappeningsthathave beengoingonaroundthe house.The final denouementhappens
whenone dayBen isasleepinbedafterbeinginworkall day;Kate is cleaningupdownstairsand
puttingthe finishingtouchesoutaroundthe livingroom.The doorsdownstairs slamshutand
objectsfromthe livingroomstartflyingaround.Kate runsupstairsto be withBenbut fallshalf way,
she getsup and runs up to the bedroomandthe doorslamsshut.Theyare both screamingtoeach
other,Kate terrified.All of asuddenBenbecomesverysilentandKate shutsupto try and hearhim,
she thengetspushedoveranddraggedintothe spare roomupstairsby somethingparanormal in
the house and thatdoor isalso slammedshut.
Character Breakdown – There are onlytwocharacters inour filmtrailerasthe story isveryisolated,
it all happenswithintheirhouse.We chose tohave one female characterandone male character
namedKate and Ben.Theyare both Caucasian,Benis24 yearsoldand Kate is22. Kate is a trainee
nurse and hasa caringand calm personality whereasBen isapsychologistgraduate sohe hasquite a
headstrongpersonality.Kate hashada few lossesinherfamilysodecidedtotraintobe a nurse to
helppeople asmuchas she can. Benlikestoreassure people thattheywillbe okandisquite
optimistic.Thisiswhywe chose these charactersbecause theybounce off eachotherandhelpeach
otherovercome obstaclesintheirlives.
Visual Elements– This whole storyisbeing setinEmma’shouse,we have twoactors that are playing
Kate and Ben(Emma Uptonand Daniel Hopkins).We won’tbe usinganypropsas everythingwe
needwill be alreadyinthe house,alsothe costumeswill justbe casual clothingjustlike the clothes
anyone wearsona dayto day basis.We will have touse the lightsinside the house andsunlightfor
whenwe are shootingthe clipsas we don’thave anylightingequipmenttouse.We will be usinga
lotof differentcameramovementforeveryscene we’redoing, lotsof differentshotssuchaslong,
wide,mid,close up,extreme close upandpanningshots.Wheneditingall of ourclipstogetherto

AudioElements– We will be usinga fewsoundtracks,right now we’re nottoosure on which
soundtrackswe will be usingbutwhicheveroneswe dochoose will be playedthroughoutthe trailer.
There will be soundeffectsalso used;we will use these tocreate suspensetowardsthe endof the
trailerwhenthe storybecomestense.
Rationale – We chose thisideaforour final majorprojectbecause we watcha lotof filmsandare
veryinterestedinthe productionside of things.Insteadof tryingtoproduce a filmorshort filmwe
thoughtwe’dstartsmall and create a filmtrailer.We have alsogainedalot of skillsoverthe past2
yearsby producingTV adverts,AnimationE - Stingsand musicvideos. Skillssuchastimekeeping,
beingorganised,teamwork,andusingdifferenttypesof software whenediting.Althoughwe have
neverproducedafilmtrailerbefore we are determinedtoensure itis upto the beststandardsas
possible byputtinginall of oureffortandusingall of ourskillscombined.
Requirements& Resources – There will onlybe three of usonsetat all times,twoof us are crew
(KelseyKeighleyandEmmaUpton) and twoof us are cast (EmmaUpton and Daniel Hopkins).When
goingthroughthe verystart of our researchand pre-production we hadtocome up withsome ideas
of the locationsforusto shoot.We finallydecidedonusingEmma Upton’s house asour location
because we wantedthe storyto be basedona house.Thiswill alsomake iteasierforusto shoot
because we have permissionimmediatelyoff Emma’smumandthere will hopefullybe noissues.
Constraints and Contingency– Whenfilmingourclipsthere couldreallyonlybe one minorproblem
that we may encounterwhichis, amemberof the crew / cast not turningupon the day.To ensure
we overcome this we will ensureeveryonecangetto the locationon a certainday anda certaintime
or rearrangingthe days.
Legal and Ethical Considerations – The onlylegal andethical issue thatwe couldhave trouble withis
copyrightof the musicwe use whenediting the clipsforourtrailer.Toensure overcome thiswe will
ensure thatwe get permissionfromthe copyrightholderof acertainsong/ soundtrack,or getsome
that are copyrightfree.
