  accurate, wide-ranging and relevant
  information that a democracy
  requires.

 Specialized skills and training.
 Long bureaucratic processes.
 Well-established business models.
 Accountability for outputs.
Social Media enables Citizen Journalism.

 Transforms monologues (one to
  many) into dialogues (many to many).
 Democratizes information,
  transforming people from content
  readers into publishers.
 Extremely popular since enables
  people to connect online for personal
  and business reasons.

 The trend is to enhance traditional
  journalism by engaging “citizen
  journalists” through “user-generated
  content”.

Citizen Journalism.  Citizen journalism is the concept of members of the public playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information.  The intent of this participation is to provide independent, reliable, accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democracy requires.

Building the Citizen Journalism Bridge.  Ultimately, citizen journalism will NOT replace traditional journalism it is evolving it.  Traditional journalism has already merged citizen journalism into its reporting “mix”.  The trend is to enhance traditional journalism by engaging “citizen journalists” through “user-generated content”.
