2. Caleb Carr Caleb Carr was born in New York City, on August 2, 1955. Raised in the lower east side of Manhattan. Carr completed received his Bachelors of Arts in History at New York University. Covered works on mostly Central American as a journalist. He co-wrote his first non-fiction book, America Invulnerable: The Quest for Absolute Security from 1812 to Star Wars, in 1989. Carr also works in film and theater. He co-wrote for Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist in 2004 and 2005 The Alienist became one of his bestselling novels.

4. Themes Takes place in late 19th century, New York City. Theodore Roosevelt is the police commissioner and puts together a team to try and capture a serial killer. He loses personal friends of the team to the hands of the killer. After near-death experiences, the team captures the serial killer. Dr. Kreizler and Lucius perform an autopsy to help them understand the nuero-anatomy of the serial killer. They find no physical brain deteriorationand proves Kreizler’s theory.
6. Mariano Azuela Mariano Azuela was born in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, in 1873. Azuela received his degree in literature and medicine in Guadalajara in 1899. Azuela set up a practice in Lagos de Moreno. He joined Madero’s revolution against PorfirioDíaz and was named jefepolítico in his home town of Lagos se Moreno, after Madero's success. Azuela left politics but continued his career in the medical and literary scene. He set up free clinics for the needy and wrote novels. In 1952 he had a fatal heart attack in Mexico City.
7. Characters Demetrio Macías leads a group of men in the fight against federales of Victoriano Huerta. He is a skilled marksman and a great leader in battle. Luis Cervantes is he newest member to Macias’ gang. He is recruited to fight in the Federale army but abandoned them after he got offended. He studies medicine and a journalism. He ends up fleeing Mexico to the United States.
8. Themes Azuela leaves the reader with the image of him still fighting. Regular people standing up for what they believe in. The revolutionaries goal was to cleanse their country of tyranny and end up becoming crooked themselves.
