  doing?
Active and Passive Voice
Active Voice
In most English sentences with an action
  verb, the subject performs the action denoted
  by the verb or the subject is doing the verb's
  action.
Because the subject does or "acts upon" the
  verb in such sentences, the sentences are said
  to be in the active voice.

The little girl eats ice cream.

It means the little girl (subject) is doing the
                 eating (verb).

The girl wrote a letter.


It means the girl (subject) is doing the writing
                     (verb).

The boy is reading a book.


It means the boy (subject) is doing the reading
                     (verb).

Passive Voice
Passive voice is the opposite of active.
Passive voice indicates that the subject is the
  patient or recipient of the action denoted by the
  verb.

e. g. The ice cream is eaten by the little girl.

      The letter was written by the girl.

      The book is being read by the boy.
What is The Pattern ???

                        PARTICIPLE




The ice cream      is   eaten        by ...
Pay attention the followings:

1. The object of the active sentence becomes
   the subject of the passive sentence.

2. The verb is changed (to be + past participle).

3. The subject of the active sentence becomes
   the object of the passive sentence (or is
   dropped if unnecessary).

What is the use of passive voice?
My wallet was stolen.
Nobody knows who steal my wallet.

I was born in 1990.
Everybody knows mother give the birth.

This camcorder was manufactured in Japan.
It is not important who did it.

That is the book which was stolen.
 It is to emphasis the book.

  • 6. Active and Passive Voice Active Voice In most English sentences with an action verb, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb or the subject is doing the verb's action. Because the subject does or "acts upon" the verb in such sentences, the sentences are said to be in the active voice. Next
  • 7. The little girl eats ice cream. It means the little girl (subject) is doing the eating (verb). Back
  • 8. The girl wrote a letter. It means the girl (subject) is doing the writing (verb). Back
  • 9. The boy is reading a book. It means the boy (subject) is doing the reading (verb). Back
  • 10. Passive Voice Passive voice is the opposite of active. Passive voice indicates that the subject is the patient or recipient of the action denoted by the verb. e. g. The ice cream is eaten by the little girl. The letter was written by the girl. The book is being read by the boy.

  • 12. Pay attention the followings: 1. The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. 2. The verb is changed (to be + past participle). 3. The subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped if unnecessary).

  • 16. My wallet was stolen. Nobody knows who steal my wallet. I was born in 1990. Everybody knows mother give the birth. This camcorder was manufactured in Japan. It is not important who did it. That is the book which was stolen.  It is to emphasis the book.
