3. COMPOSITE WALL
When walls are constructed with two or more types
building materials, it is termed as composite masonary.
The composite masonary is adopted due to following
reasons:-

2.It improves the appearance of the structure by
concealing the inferior work.
3.It makes the use of locally available materials, to
obtain optimum economy.
3
4. The usual combinations adopted to obtain composite
masonary can be listed as below:-
1.Stone Facing with brick backing.
2 Stone slab Facing with brick baking.
3.Brick Facing with concrete baking.
4.Ashler facing with brick backing.
5.Ashler facing with rubble backing.

5. • In this type of composite masonry a wall is constructed
in brick work and the stone slabs are used in facing.
• The stones used may be natural or artificial. This type of
construction is quite common, since stone slabs or tiles
may be of marble stone. If the stone slabs are used, they
are fine dressed and are used in big panels. It is
preferable to use metal clamps to connect the facing
and backing masonry of the wall.

10. • In this type of construction, bricks are used as facing
material and the concrete as the backing. This type
of construction is adopted to get strength of concrete
and the aesthetic of bricks.

13. • In this type of composite masonry rough tooled and
chamfered stones are provided in facing while brick
work is provided in backing.
• It is preferable to use the height of ashlar as a
multiple of brick thickness plus masonry joints.
Alternate courses of ashlar may be headers under
