Question 3-what kind of media institution might want to distribute your film and why?
1. Question 3:What kind of
media institution might
distribute your media
product and why?
2. Our Production Company
The name of our production company is called F.A.M.E productions.
We came up with this name because we used our last initials from
our surnames and it was easier to keep the name simple for
example the film company “Warner bros” was named this because
the producers are four brothers.
We decided that we would use this image of a £20 pound note to
represent that our film company is British and the word fame is
connoted with success, wealth and power.
We chose a purple font and background because the colour purple
is connoted with wealth and royalty.
3. From my research into production companies I learnt
that the Production Logo has to stand out and be
unique because it acts as a brand Label which can
attract audiences because of its appeal. The film
company Logos that helped our group gain inspiration
from were:
The lion connotes to the audience that The image of the
this film company is dominant- the mountain connotes that The use of “The torch
“king” of films. this film company is on the Lady” represents a
“highest peak” of creating female personification
movies .The use of stars of America.
around the company’s
name
4. What Does a production company
do?
The role of a production company is to initiate film ideas for a
movie. An example of this is using successful books and adapting
them into a movie for example, Harry Potter but ideas can develop
from anywhere newspaper, comic books, autobiographies ETC .
The production company will then have to buy the rights to the film
and have permission from the author/whoever owns the material
and the publicists before creating the movie, Therefore the
production company have to finance and have a budget for a film.
They also have the role of finding actors/actresses through
casting, editing, scriptwriting, screening movies. They are in charge of
organising schedules such as deadlines for the release of a movie
and in charge of the crew members. They are involved in the Pre-
production, Production and Post production of a movie.
5. What's a distributor?
A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for
releasing films to the public either theatrically or for home
viewing (DVD, Video-on-demand, Download, TV programs )
(
through broadcast syndication-On-Demand. A distributor may do
this directly (if the distributor owns the theatres or film
distribution networks) or through theatrical exhibitors and other
sub-distributors.
Our film would be distributed by the BFI because they
receive finance from the UK film council which receives
funding from the National Lottery and British Tax to support
young Film makers.
6. Funding for our Film
Our movie will be funded by the UK film council. This is
because they support upcoming British film makers and
accept all genres of film ;they receive funding from the
lottery to finance the film so they have the funding for
specialist equipment such as the camera in which a
talented film maker may not have the funding for
independently.
7. Titles
We looked at research on opening title sequences from movies particularly
from SE7EN.
The order in which the titles appeared in seven are :
Production name
Director
Leading/main actor/s
Film title
Casting crew
Score writers
Costume designers
Editor
Production designer
Director of photography
Co-producers
Co-executive producers
Executive producer
Producer
Director
8. We learnt that the directors name gets repeated twice (the directors name
is seen again at the ending) so in our opening title sequence we also
reflected this: Directors
name
mentioned
once
Directors name
repeated twice its
also the last title seen
before the beginning
of our thriller opening
9. The film that has been similarly institutionally released is
The inbetweeners ,Kidulthood,Fishtank and Sket.
