2. Welcome Message
Dear Colleagues,
It is my honor and pleasure to open this new OMICS meeting “Pediatric Cardiology
2016” to be held in Las Vegas, USA that I visited many years ago when it was the place of
the American College of Cardiology meetings. Therefore, you immediately understand
that I am a famous cardiologist Willis Hurst “enormous contributions” in the field of
cardiology, and classified me as one of the 216 outstanding individuals since the 14th
century as published in his book in 2003.
For the last 40 years I have expanded the frontiers of electrocardiography and clinical
electrophysiology. My original training in Physics and Chemistry, together with my
medical degree was an excellent background to contribute to the rapid development in pacemaker technol-
ogy in which I made 16 original contributions in the late 60s. This was possible because I got the best notes at
the first exams which gave me access to the best department of basic medicine followed one year later to enter
the top department in internal medicine of Paris. Subsequently I was able to have access to a department of
cardiology where the boss of Swiss origin was interested by the first pacemakers. I was quickly recognized
as able to understand multiple applications because of my extensive knowledge in electricity and electron-
ics leading me to build and designed different kinds of electronic devices for the treatment of patients with
cardiac conduction disorders, including a device to synchronize DC shocks on the QRS complexes for the
treatment of atrial fibrillation. Some of this equipment is now displayed in the Museum of the Assistance
Publique in Paris. Another device presented in my medical thesis was used for studying the cardiac pacing
threshold of patients waiting for pacemaker implantation now included inside modern pacemaker called
the auto-capture function which increases the life span of these devices. In 1975, I introduced the concept
of inhibition of ventricular extrasystoles by automatically introducing premature atrial stimulation for the
prevention of ventricular fibrillation.
In 1976, I published the book “The Essentials of Cardiac Pacing”, co-authored with my mentors and col-
leagues, Professor Y Grosgogeat and JJ Welti. This work was translated from French into English, German,
Italian and Spanish.
In the most recent years I was able to understand the pathogenesis of ARVD and Epsilon waves as well as
phenomena of superimposed myocarditis which is frequently the determinant of poor prognosis during the
late phase of the disease. Researchers from San Diego as well as Harvard have recently been able to reproduce
the disease in the dish and performed ablation of the disease phenotype in animal models by the use of small
molecules or drugs. This new approach is opening new vistas for slowing or even stopping disease progres-
sion in humans.
I have also developed a new technic of therapeutic hypothermia by adiabatic CO2 expansion originally de-
voted to the treatment of out of hospital cardiac arrest and more recently to stroke and spinal cord injury. A
neurologist has suggested to me it’s possible use in pediatrics and I will be pleased to learn your opinion on
this new approach because a work performed on animal model has been reported at the EHRA meeting in
Milano 2015 and is now close to a first pilot study in Europe.

12. About Las Vegas
www.pediatriccardiology.conferenceseries.com
Las Vegas is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Nevada and the county seat of Clark County.
Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city known primarily for gambling, shopping,
fine dining, and nightlife and is the leading financial and cultural center for Southern Nevada. A
growing retirement and family city, Las Vegas is the 31st-most populous city in the United States,
with a population at the 2010 census of 583,756. The city is one of the top three leading destinations
in the United States for conventions, business and meetings. Today, Las Vegas is one of the top tourist
destinations in the world. The city’s tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the
title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs.
There are numerous outdoor lighting displays on Fremont Street, as well as elsewhere in the city.
Las Vegas is situated within Clark County in an arid basin on the desert floor, surrounded by
dry mountains. The Spring Mountains lie to the west. Much of the landscape is rocky and dusty; the
environment is dominated by desert vegetation and some wildlife, and the area is subject to torrential
flash floods. Within the city there are many lawns, trees, and other greenery. Due to water resource
issues, there is now a movement to encourage xeriscapes. Another part of the water conservation
efforts include scheduled watering groups for watering residential landscaping. Las Vegas’ climate is a
subtropical, hot desert climate typical of the Mojave Desert in which it lies. The city enjoys abundant
sunshine year-round: it has an average of about 300 sunny days per year with more than 3,800 hours
of sunshine.
