3. Learning Through Play
The Early Years Foundation Stage is a framework designed for
delivering high-quality care and education for children in the
early year's age groups where its focus is not on formal
learning, but on learning through play. At KKDC, a child is
encouraged to make choices and select their own area of
interest (freely chosen self-directed play) and most activities
are child-initiated and adult-led. Children learn in their own
way, at their own pace and KKDC favors a play-based
curriculum, allowing the child to lead and challenge their
chosen activity. This approach encourages the child to question
their own curiosities and obtain their own answers in a fun and
interesting way. This approach holds tremendous significance if
children are to continually learn throughout their lives.

The term 'Special Educational Needs (SEN) has a legal definition,
referring to children who have learning difficulties or disabilities
that make it harder for them to learn or access education than
most children of the same age. Many children will have SEN of
some kind at some time during their education. KKDC is
experienced in this area and is qualified to offer help and support
for your child. If your child has special educational needs, they
may need extra help in a range of areas, for example:

5. At KKDC, we believe that introducing children to a well-
balanced and nutritional diet from an early age will steer
them on the right path with regard to healthy eating. At
KKDC, it is essential that all children enjoy a well-
balanced lunch, combined with nutritious mid-morning
and mid-afternoon snacks with drinking water and milk
available throughout the day. Our qualified on-site cook
produces freshly cooked meals daily taking into account
your child's dietary requirements. We have many children
that are vegetarian or are not allowed any added sugar or
salt. This is not a problem for our cook who is very
creative!

6. Life at KKDC
Each day at KKDC is organized around the needs, interests, and
developments of every individual child in order for them to learn at a
rate suited to their requirements. Nonetheless, the general makeup and
pattern remain the same as we are aware that this contributes to a safe
environment for children as they begin to learn and therefore how to
behave. The arrangement of each room has been set up with the
children's age and stage of development being at the forefront and the
focus will be to provide knowledge, inspiration, dedication, and safety.
Our dedicated practitioners make a conscious effort to get to know
parents through discussions and children through play. Carefully
selected and planned activities will engage and interest each child,
broaden their skills and ensure a sense of fun

7. Outside Play Area
The garden is a continuing source of interest and an important resource for a variety of topic-
related work. The children have many objects to explore such as herbs and fragrant flowers
growing in the sensory garden
A secret garden is a place where the children can use their imagination playing in the cottage
with the woodland animals. Mobiles and wind chimes hang from the trees to create a magical
area
The garden also has a physical area protected by safety bark where the children can build with
milk crates, crawl through tunnels and tents and climb in the large tires
The children use the growing area all year round to grow different vegetables which we harvest
and try at meal times
A climbing frame which is equipped with swings and a slide is definitely the showpiece of the
garden and a huge success with all the parents/carers and children
Equipped with wheeled toys and small apparatus, the front playground is ideal for this type of
play

8. Parents Evening
Every year, KKDC holds a parent's evening which is something
parents/carers will become used to once their child finishes daycare
and starts primary school. You will spend time with your child's key
worker who will guide you through your child's progress at KKDC. We
appreciate that when collecting your child in the evening, you will have
other commitments, and attending parents' evening is a great way to
obtain an in-depth account of your child's development. KKDC is very
welcoming daycare and parents and children should feel that they can
approach the child's key person or any other member of staff about
any issues or questions they may have concerning their child.
