What are smartphones?<br />A smartphone is a mobile phone that offers additional futuristic computing intelligence than a normal entry level mobile phone.<br />They may be considered as handheld computers unified with a mobile telephone.<br />Smartphones usually allow the user to install and run more advanced applications.<br />They incorporate the functions of a cameraphone and a personal digital assistant(PDA).<br />
Historical Back round<br />The IBM Simon was the first ever smartphone to be designed and displayed as a concept product in 1992.<br />It was completely touchscreen, it had no physical buttons and was released into the general public in 1993.<br />Back then the Simon was a symbol of mass technological intelligence.<br />But today it would considered a low-end product, lacking a basic camera- now considered the usual feature of any mobile phone.<br />However, it was prominently advanced at the time.<br />
Popularity<br />A study by ComScore indicates that over 45.5 million individuals in the United States of America owned smartphones in 2010.<br />In 2010 the sale of smartphones increased drastically.<br />The sales sky-rocketed by a 72.1% margin from the previous year. <br />Smartphones are selling tremendously and they make up 19% of all mobile phones.<br />

Helps organise their work efficiently.</li></li></ul><li>What do they offer?<br />Mainly all smartphones offer the basic identical features and as compared to normal cellphones, they offer quite a lot.<br />High internet browsing speeds.<br />Integrated with dozens of applications such as social networking utilities and music apps.<br />Navigation and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are the newest features particularly with Android operating smartphones.<br />The Android operating system is a platform backed by search engine Google, consisting of Google’s usual applications such as GoogleMaps, Gmail, etc.<br />
