Notes de l'éditeur
I want to give you a quick overview of the programme first. After Mat I will give you a clearer breakdown on all the planned and proposed activities, and you can ask questions or prose ideas throughout. So, The Knee High Project is the name given to this 6 months research and engagement programme which is looking at where the opportunities lie to improve the health and wellbeing of children under five. Including prgenancyThe Design Council in partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and the London Boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth, will deliver a programme of work that aims to catalyse innovation in ‘early years’ child health and wellbeing
Our objectives for the programme as a whole To focus on building capacity and changing behaviour. To make changes in a child and families life that will last across generations We deliberately want to take a fresh look at this area, so we’re going to be ambitious in our thinking, we might get things wrong, but we need to do things differently to trusly see where the hidden opportunities are- We want to understand how early interventions can be ,easured in the longer term, not just in the now and we want to build this very seriously into the workWe also want, in all the research and ideas development, to keep the child and family at the heart. What really makes a difference.
We’ll come back to the day-to-day, but it’s important that we look beyond ourselves and see everything. It’s important for us all as it’ll help move things forward and reduce those sticking pointsBecause we are aiming for new perspective, we need to suspend disbelief. In a way we need to imagine a world where we are starting a fresh into order to really see what oThere are of truths that model our behaviour and this project is a good opportunity to challenge them, we’re interested in seeing the answers behind the familiar, so we need to all catch our selves making assumptions, and ask us where they come fromWe need use creativity seriously as a way to see thing differently, and problem solve. So it’s about enjoying what the imagination can do and feeling free to do that. No idea, no thought process or anything is wrong.I want to hand you over the Mat now who is going to talk a little more about how design and innovation can have a role in this programme.I will then talk in more detail about the research
The Knee High Project is the name given to this research and engagement phase. We are spending six months engaging professionals and families across both boroughs.Keeping the perspective of the child at the centre of it all.
The two main aims for this first stage is build up a body of research and translate this research into clear and compelling opportunities and design briefs. This research will include ….We are also very keen to share our pocesses, our learning, and any tools along the way. In a bid to give everyone we work with the tools and confidence to try some of this out themselves. We have a blog where we are putting all our learning, we will be sharing the outputs and tools along the way as much as possible and at the end.And please do ask us if you’re keen to get anything more.
The sixmonth plan is as follows,
Promoted through local media, print and online
Range of culturesBilingual children and familiesSingle parentsFathersGrandparentsNannies and child-mindersMore challenging youngerWorking parentsVery isolated parentsComplex families
Academic evidence and existing researchLocal, national and international dataExisting interventions and comparative case studies (best and worth practice examples)Interviews with key expertsConclusive analysis of gaps in research and priority areas
Session in January designed to bring all this stuff together and we’d like to involve some of you I this….
