The document discusses EcoMap Amsterdam, a project to build an online platform to collect, aggregate, and present sustainable development and ecological data to the public. The goals are to increase awareness of environmental footprints, facilitate behavioral changes, and stimulate sustainable practices among businesses. It will add real-time data collection and visualization capabilities to the existing EcoMap San Francisco platform. Users will be able to create personal profiles, compare data, and set goals. The project aims to benefit users by improving health, reducing costs, and increasing a sense of community. Challenges include adding real-time data and engaging users, which the project will address through collaboration.

Our numerous presence here clearly shows there is a worldwide and still growing awareness that something must be done, and urgently, to preserve the earth for future generations. London's C40 initiative, the Clinton Global Initiative and the film by Al Gore have all contributed to this awareness. It is therefore very important to put together new targets in Copenhagen. And together we participate in the Connected Urban Development Program. Amsterdam set itself a climate target which is to reduce its CO2 emissions by 40 percent between 1990 and 2025. This is an ambitious, yet necessary step in achieving a low-carbon energysystem by 2040. Therefore, Amsterdam has developed a long term strategy with diverse measures like the implementation of smart energy grids, the transition to alternative energy sources like sun and wind, and the use of electric cars. To facilitate the use of electric cars, Amsterdam will place a few hundred Electrical Recharging Stations throughout the city. And last but not least inclusion of ICT plays an important role in accomplishing these measures in order to reach our climate targets.Presentation title23 mei 2009City of Amsterdam<number>
Throughout this conference, Amsterdam will provide presentations on Smart Working Centres, the Personal Travel Assistant, the Ecomap, Green IT, and Sustainable Buildings. With the inclusion of these and other projects, Amsterdam has positioned itself amongst the most sustainable cities in Europe. To keep Amsterdam at this level of sustainability, we think it wise to build on the experiences of other cities. It is as important to share our experiences in order to empower our partners. The government can not accomplish the climate goals alone. The CUD initiative and the C40 are crucial partnerships to facilitate communication and cooperation.
